Television shows, especially in recent years, have been no strangers to love triangles -- or having the main character of the series attempt relationships with various other characters on the quest for their one true love.
Most of the time the most suitable choice for the main character is an obvious one, like Ross and Rachel on Friends or Seth and Summer from The OC. However, other times it's unclear which love story will win out, with both relationships making strong cases as to why they could potentially result in a happily ever after.
90210: Dylan
Dylan McKay found himself in a love triangle on 90210, balancing feelings for both Kelly Taylor and Brenda Walsh during the course of the show.
Dylan's love for both girls was evident and real, with his relationship with Kelly outlasting his romance with Brenda. While initially creating a divide in the friendship between Kelly and Brenda, they eventually made Dylan decide who he wanted to be with. He chose Kelly, but it's clear that he had strong enough feelings for both that either love may have survived long-term.
Jane The Virgin: Jane
Jane begins Jane the Virgin in a relationship with her long-time boyfriend, Michael. Despite her surprise pregnancy, Jane and Michael remain a strong and united couple, even getting married and co-parenting with Rafael.
However, when Michael is shockingly shot and seemingly killed, Jane is heartbroken and forced to move on. She falls in love with the father of her child, Rafael, and the two develop a great love of their own. Jane genuinely loved both men during the series, and either one could've been her true soulmate.
LOST: Sawyer
The biggest love triangle on LOST was always between Jack/Kate/Sawyer, with Kate going back and forth between the good guy and the bad boy before eventually choosing to be with Jack.
Sawyer's love stories were more compelling though, as his romance with Kate was fueled in passion while his partnership with Juliet was far more mature, healthy, and indicative of true love. Sawyer could've ended up with either island lady, and his character grew as a result of both relationships.
Felicity: Felicity
Keri Russell's Felicity famously moved to New York to attend the same college as her long-time crush Ben, but before dating him she fell for her RA Noel, played by the dreamy Scott Foley.
Felicity and Noel's relationship didn't pan out, but they did have a great love story in the first season of the series. She went on to develop an on-again-off-again relationship with Ben, eventually choosing to be with him. Both guys ended up being great matches for her and allowed her to find herself in her college years.
Friends: Monica
Monica Geller desperately wanted a perfect partner on Friends, and lucky for her, she was presented with two great contenders during the series.
Despite their age gap, Monica had a mature and healthy relationship with Richard that made her feel safe, secure, and loved. That romance set her up for success in her marriage to Chandler, as she now had the tools to create the life she wanted for herself. Monica and Chandler became arguably the best love story on Friends, and an iconic sitcom couple.
How I Met Your Mother: Robin
When Ted meets Robin in the pilot episode of How I Met Your Mother, it seems like it might be love at first sight. The two of them end up in a relationship, then a friendship, and then eventually a relationship again.
Robin's second love story was more of a surprise, with her developing feelings for Ted's best friend, Barney. Their relationship was everything Robin and Ted's was lacking, with them balancing each other out and eventually marrying (and divorcing). While fans remain divided on who her true love was, there's no arguing she had two great loves throughout the series.
One Tree Hill: Lucas
One Tree Hill's Lucas Scott fell for Peyton Sawyer in the pilot episode, but ended up dating her best friend Brooke Davis before attempting a relationship with her.
Though Peyton always had a hold on Lucas's heart, there was no denying that he and Brooke had a passionate, love-filled romance as well. Brooke would've been a great long-term partner for the older Scott brother, and it was clear his chemistry with both ladies was off the charts.
Sex And The City: Carrie
The most notable love story from Sex and the City is the one between Carrie Bradshaw and Mr. Big, but it wasn't Carrie's only great romance.
With Aidan, Carrie had the opposite of Mr. Big. He was younger and more laid-back, but Carrie could never commit to him in the same ways she could with her true love. Regardless, both men helped Carrie figure out what she wanted out of life and love.
Gilmore Girls: Lorelai
Lorelai Gilmore's first love was the father of her child. Christopher and Lorelai had so much history and attempted their relationship many times throughout the series, even getting married (and then divorced) in Season 7. Their young love never seemed to die, as shown when they reconnected throughout the years.
However, Lorelai found her true partner in Luke Danes, the owner of the diner in Stars Hollow. With Luke, Lorelai was finally able to grow up and be the woman she wanted to be. Luke provided her with the epic romance and love story she yearned for while she was with Christopher.
Dawson's Creek: Joey
Joey Potter's crush on her childhood best friend Dawson eventually turned into something more, with the two of them taking their friendship to the next level and dating.
While Joey harbors a crush on Dawson, Pacey has one on Joey and he wishes their friendship would evolve. Their relationship ended up being the stronger and longer-lasting of the two, but Joey's romantic pairings with her two friends were both regarded as great young love stories.
