From Atlanta to The Walking Dead to Better Call Saul, many beloved TV shows are coming to an end this year. Some of this year’s TV finales, like Better Things, have been more satisfying than others, like Ozark. Next year, another batch of TV hits will be concluding their run with a series finale of their own.

From The Flash to The Crown to Riverdale to The Handmaid’s Tale to The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, some hugely popular TV shows are set to conclude their run in 2023.

Riverdale

The cast of Riverdale

The CW’s supernatural horror adaptation of the Archie Comics characters, Riverdale, will end its run next year with its seventh and final season. The two-part sixth season aired its finale back in July, and the writers are preparing to wrap up the popular teen soap with its next batch of episodes.

The series, developed for television by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, has always skewed closer to spooky David Lynchian horror than the spirit of the lighthearted source material, but it’s amassed a sizable audience since it premiered in 2017.

Star Trek: Picard

Patrick Stewart in Star Trek Picard

Anchored by Patrick Stewart’s deeply nuanced turn as an aging Jean-Luc Picard, Star Trek: Picard is set to conclude its run when its third season arrives in 2023. The final season is expected to air on Paramount+ next year from February 16 to April 20.

The series’ ending will not only wrap up Picard’s storyline; it’ll wrap up the character arcs of just about everyone from The Next Generation, including returning cast members LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Jonathan Frakes, Gates McFadden, and Marina Sirtis.

The Crown

Imelda Staunton as Elizabeth II in The Crown

Netflix’s hugely popular dramatization of the late Queen Elizabeth II’s reign is set to conclude after the current two-season block. After the fifth season’s November release, The Crown will come to an end with its sixth season next year.

As the fictionalized portrait of the British monarchy approaches the present day, the final season is set to tell the stories of more recent royals like Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Jack Ryan

Adapted from Tom Clancy’s iconic literary thrillers, Prime Video’s Jack Ryan series is coming to an end with its upcoming third and fourth seasons. The series stars John Krasinski as the titular CIA analyst, who was previously played by Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck, and Chris Pine on the big screen.

The third season will premiere on December 21, setting the stage for a fourth and final season that will wrap up the show’s ongoing storylines in 2023.

Snowpiercer

Like the Bong Joon-ho movie it’s based on, TNT’s Snowpiercer series revolves around a perpetually moving train carrying the last remnants of humanity following a devastating ice age. And, like the movie, it explores themes of class warfare and social injustice.

The series has been renewed for a fourth and final season, which is being planned as the last original series to air on TNT before the network shuts down production of its original programming.

The Flash

Grant Gustin as the Flash

Unless he’s recruited for the big screen, Grant Gustin will play Barry Allen just one more time as The Flash, one of the mainstays of The CW’s Arrowverse franchise, is set to conclude with its ninth and final season in early 2023. Eric Wallace is serving as the showrunner and cast members like Candice Patton and Jesse L. Martin will be back.

Filming is underway for the final season, which will consist of a shortened order of 13 episodes leading up to the series finale that fans have waited nearly a decade for.

Never Have I Ever

The cast of Never Have I Ever

Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher’s heartwarming Netflix coming-of-age series Never Have I Ever recently dropped its third season. The fourth season, set to premiere in 2023, will be the show’s last. The series has been described as a turning point for South Asian representation in Hollywood media.

While the third season’s abundance of underdeveloped subplots was criticized, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan’s lead performance as Devi Vishwakumar has been consistently praised.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

Amazon has renewed The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel for a fifth and final season to air in 2023. Set in the late 1950s and early 1960s, the series stars Rachel Brosnahan as Midge Maisel, a New York housewife who becomes a sensation on the burgeoning standup comedy scene.

The series has been widely praised by critics. Hopefully, in the final season, Amy Sherman-Palladino and the writers will be able to stick the landing.

Manifest

The cast of Manifest

The supernatural drama Manifest explores the ramifications of the passengers and crew of a commercial airliner suddenly reappearing after being presumed dead for half a decade. After being canceled by NBC after three seasons, the show was picked up by Netflix, which renewed it for a fourth and final season to tie up the loose ends and resolve the mystery.

After the first part of the 20-episode final season has hit Netflix’s library on November 4, the second part will conclude the series next year.

The Handmaid’s Tale

June held under arrest in The Handmaid's Tale

With its timely themes and razor-sharp execution, The Handmaid’s Tale has been praised as one of the greatest TV series of the 21st century. Adapted from Margaret Atwood’s seminal dystopian novel of the same name, The Handmaid’s Tale is anchored by Elisabeth Moss’ stellar lead performance.

After five universally acclaimed seasons on the air, Hulu has announced that the next season – season 6 – will be the show’s last, as the writers finally bring June’s story to a close.
