The 2017-2018 season of new television has just kicked off but that doesn't diminish the anticipation we all have in the next season of shows set to premiere in 2018. Networks are working hard with creators to bring out the best new series in a highly-competitive market, which includes not only other TV series they need to outperform but new digital platforms as well.

While there are plenty of series on the air now that we are enjoying, we wanted to look ahead and see what was just over the horizon. 2018 is set to bring out some program that we have been waiting on for a long time (live-action Star Wars show anyone?) so we wanted to go over those series and bring you as much information as possible in a nice list.

Unfortunately, we don't have as many details on some of these as we would like--to include release dates, but we are going to throw as much as we can at you so you can hopefully get as ramped-up and excited as we are.

Let the anticipation grow with our list, which isn't presented in order of release (Since we don't really know that), but rather, in no particular order, these 17 TV Shows You Didn’t Know Were Coming In 2018

CLOAK & DAGGER

Marvel's Cloak and Dagger Header Image

Marvel has been killing it on the small screen lately so it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that a duo of street-level superheroes will be getting the TV treatment. Cloak & Dagger have always been some of those lesser-known superheroes (outside of comic fandom) who many felt would benefit from greater exposure and we can finally see that exposure come to fruition with Freeform's Cloak & Dagger set to premiere sometime in 2018.

The series will follow the titular heroes played by Olivia Holt (Tandy Bowen/Dagger) and Aubrey Joseph (Tyrone Johnson/Cloak) with the premise that both teenagers come from different backgrounds, but acquire their superpowers while forming a romantic relationship. They come to learn that their powers work better when used in conjunction with one another "but their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging."

Cloak & Dagger will air 10 episodes in its first season, which has been created by Joe Pokaski. Pokaski has written for Heroes, Marvel's Daredeviland Crossing Jordan.

STAR WARS: UNDERWORLD

Star Wars Underworld Concept Art and Logo

It's been stuck in development hell since as early as 2005, but we are finally going to get a live-action series set in the Star Wars universe titled Star Wars: Underworld in 2018. We don't have as much detail about the project as we would like, but know that it is set to take place between Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV: A New Hope, which leaves a good two decades of time to fill with stories.

According to producer Rick McCallum, Star Wars: Underworld is, at this point, only a working title and they had 50 scripts written for the series back in 2013. He described the project as "The most provocative, the most bold and daring material that we've ever done."

Concerning casting, we only know that Daniel Logan will reprise his role as Boba Fett. He played the character in the prequel trilogy when he was still a child, but will be 21 when the series finally airs on December 15th, 2018.

LOST IN SPACE

Lost in Space Netflix Show

Lost in Space will be returning to television in May 2018 thanks to Netflix. The original series premiered in 1965, but the new show in development will follow the same premise:

The Robinson Family aboard the Jupiter 2 encounters a rip in spacetime in 2046 and crash on an unknown planet. The stranded family, alongside other colonists, are marooned and stranded light years away from known space as they fight to survive in their alien environment and find a way home.

The Robinsons will be played by Roby Stephens (John), Molly Parker (Maureen), Taylor Russell (Judy), Mina Sundwall (Penny), and Maxwell Jenkins will play Will Robinson. Parker Posey will play a gender-swapped Dr. Smith and Ignacio Serricchio will play Don West. The Robot is also promised to make an appearance in a modified form.

Lost in Space will premiere in May with 10 episodes to be streamed in full on Netflix.

CASTLE ROCK

Castle Rock will premiere 10 episodes via Hulu in 2018 and has a lot going for it. A teaser trailer released in February 2017 indicated that stories will come from the following King works:

It, Dolores Claiborne, Needful Things, 'Salem's Lot, Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption, Dreamcatcher, Night Shift, The Green Mile, Misery, Hearts in Atlantis, The Shining, The Mangler, Four Past Midnight, Different Seasons, Nightmares & Dreamscapes, and The Night Flier.

J.J. Abrams is the creative force behind the show, which will feature Melanie Lynskey, André Holland, Jane Levy, Sissy Spacek, Bill Skarsgård, Scott Glenn, and Terry O'Quinn. Abrams will serve as the executive producer on the series described as combining "the mythological scale and intimate character storytelling of King’s best-loved works, weaving an epic saga of darkness and light, played out on a few square miles of Maine woodland."

THE ROMANOFFS

The Romanoffs Matthew Weiner Amazon series

The Romanoffs is set to premiere in the spring of 2018 via Amazon and is the next project for Mad Men series creator Matthew Weiner. The Romanoffs will be an anthology series centered around people who believe that they are the modern-day descendants of the Romanov family.

If you aren't up on your Russian history, the Romanovs were the last dynasty to rule Russia from 1613 until the Bolsheviks seized power in 1917. Everyone in the family, including Tsar Nicholas II, Tsarina Alexandra, and their five children were executed alongside their remaining loyal servants, but conspiracy theories have suggested that Anastasia, one of the daughters, survived the attack. The show appears to follow that conspiracy theory with a family who spells their name somewhat unconventionally.

For casting, we do know that the following will play a role: Diane Lane, Christina Hendricks, Mike Doyle, Aaron Eckhart, Amanda Peet, Paul Reister, John Slattery, Ambre Anderson, and Mark Valley among others. There is no set release date at this time.

BLACK LIGHTNING

Black Lightning TV Show Cress Williams

Black Lightning is one of many superhero series coming to the small screen in 2018. The series will star Cress Williams as the titular hero, a man who retired from the superhero craft but was forced out of retirement to become a vigilante for justice.

The series was originally meant for the Fox network, but after they passed, The CW snagged it and officially ordered a season consisting of 13 episodes for 2018. The stated premise is that Jefferson Pierce, a retired superhero named Black Lightning who left the game after seeing its effects on his family, is forced back into the superhero lifestyle due to the growth of a local gang.

While the series will premiere on The CW, it will not be a part of the Arrowverse (Or Flarrowverse if you are so inclined to call it that). The character is a DC property, but given the nature of the show's coming to production, there were never any plans to bring them into the same shared universe.

TITANS

Brenton Thwaites and Officer Grayson in Titans

Titans was originally set to air on TNT and was in development since September 2014, but was abandoned by the network in January 2016. It was picked up for redevelopment for DC Comics' new direct-to-consumer digital service to air sometime in 2018.

The series will follow the exploits of the superhero teen, known as the Teen Titans in comics and other media. The group consists of Dick Grayson/Robin, played by Brenton Thwaites, Koriand'r/Starfire, played by Anna Diop, Raven, played by Teagan Croft, and Garfield "Gar" Logan/Beast Boy played by Ryan Potter.

Titans will be the first live-action adaptation of the superhero team, which has appeared in one form or another in comics and television shows such as Teen Titans and Teen Titans Go!

Titans will be the featured series used to launch DC's new digital media service in the same manner CBS kicked off their service with the Star Trek Discovery in 2017.

MANIAC

Maniac will be a dark-comedy series set for release on Netflix sometime in 2017. The main cast members are pictured above: Johan Hill and Emma Stone, who previously worked together in Superbad. The series will initially consist of 10 episodes and will be based on a 2014 Norweigan series about two patients in a mental institute and the fantasy worlds they have created for themselves.

The series will be directed by Cary Fukunaga, who previously helmed HBO's first season of True Detective and Netflix's Beasts of No Nation.

In addition to Stone and Hill, Sonoya Mizuno will play Dr. Fujita and Aaralyn Anderson will play Belle Milgrim/Danielle Marino/Australia. Additionally, Sally Field will have a recurring role, as will Justin Theroux, Julia Garner, and Jemima Kirke.

GOOD GIRLS

Good Girls set photo

Good Girls is a 2018 American crime drama series created by Jenna Bans, who has worked on Desperate Housewives, Scandaland Grey's Anatomy, though Good Girls will be her first project as showrunner.

The series follows three suburban women who are having difficulty making ends meet so they decide to rob the local supermarket. While they are successful in their attempts, they find themselves in more trouble than they anticipated when the store manager recognizes one of the women.

The series will star Christina Hendricks as Beth, Retta as Ruby, Mae Whitman as Annie, Matthew Lillard as Dean, Reno Wilson as Stan, and Manny Montana as Rio. The show will be produced by Jenna Bans, Dean Parisot, Jeannine Renshaw, and Sarah Stennett.

NBC has picked up the series for their mid-season entry for the 2017-2018 season, which suggests it will air sometime in early 2018.

COUNTERPART

JK Simmons in a prison uniform in Oz

Counterpart is an American science fiction thriller series created by Justin Marks for Starz. Marks' writing credits include Top Gun: Maverick, Jungle Book 2, Rewind, and Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li. Starz ordered two seasons of the series, each of which will have 10 episodes. The first will air on the network on January 21st, 2018.

Counterpart tells the story of Howard Silk, played by J.K. Simmons, a low-level bureaucrat who discovers that the agency he works for is hiding a big secret: a bridge between our world and a parallel dimension.

Alongside Simmons, Olivia Williams has been cast as Emily Burton Silk, Howard's wife. Harry Lloyd will play Peter Quayle, Ulrich Thomsen will play Aldrich, Nazanin Boniadi stars as Claire, and Nicholas Pinnock will play Ian Shaw. We can expect most of these actors to play alternate versions of themselves in the parallel dimension, hence the name, Counterpart.

THE RESIDENT

The Resident is an upcoming medical drama series created by Amy Holden Jones, Hayley Schore, and Roshan Sethi. Jones is probably best known for writing the Beethoven film series as well as Mystic Pizza.

Fox picked up the series, which will debut sometime in 2018 and stars Matt Czuchry, Manish Dayal, Bruce Greenwood, Emily VanCamp, Shaunette Renée Wilson, Merrin Dungey, Malina Kanakaredes, Moran Atias, and Elizabeth Ludlow.

The Resident will center on a "tough, brilliant senior resident who guides an idealistic young doctor through his first day, pulling back the curtain on what really happens, both good and bad, in modern-day medicine."

There doesn't appear to be any sort of twist that many of these types of shows come with. It will be refreshing to watch a medical drama that appears to be all about medicine during a time when the American health care system is in crisis.

The Resident will premiere in January of 2018.

GROWN-ISH

Yara Shahidi photo

Grown-ish is a sitcom and the first spin-off of the highly successful series Black-ish. The series will focus on Zoey, played by Yara Shahidi, as she heads off to college and begins her journey into adulthood. The show will delve into the difficulties children experience upon leaving the nest.

The series is further described as a "contemporary take on the current issues facing both students and administrators in the world of higher education".

Alongside Shahidi, Trevor Jackson, Chris Parnell, Emily Arlook, Francia Raisa, and Jordan Buhat will complete the main cast with Deon Cole taking on the role of Charlie Telphy in a recurring part.

An episode of Black-ish served as a backdoor pilot for the spin-off, but ABC felt it was too young-skewing for the broadcast network, which is why it has been shipped over to sister network Freeform, which targets a millennial demographic. Freeform purchased a 13-episode first season, which is set to premiere on the network on January 3rd, 2018.

THE ALIENIST

Dakota Fanning toasts in The Alienist

The Alienist is a period drama event series based on the novel of the same name by Caleb Carr.

The series takes place in 1896 after a series of gruesome murders of young, male prostitutes has shaken New York City. The city's police commissioner, Theodore Roosevelt, played by Brian Geraghty, calls upon a renowned criminal psychologist (also known as an alienist), Dr. Lazlo Kreizler, played by Daniel Brühl and a newspaper illustrator named John Moore, played by Luke Evans to conduct a secret investigation into the murders. Dakota Fanning will play Sara Howard, a headstrong secretary at the police headquarters who will join in on the investigation.

TNT ordered an eight-episode run of the series, which is set to premiere on the broadcast network on January 22nd, 2018.

The budget for the series is relatively high at a whopping $5 million each. Filming took place in Budapest, Hungary and is being produced by Eric Roth who is best known for his work on Forrest Gump, Munich, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

THE BALLAD OF BUSTER SCRUGGS

James Franco in Angie Tribeca

The Coen Brothers, Ethan and Joel, have dominated the film industry so it's about time they made the jump over to television with their forthcoming project, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. The sibling writer/director duo will be bringing the anthology series to Netflix in a six-episode miniseries in 2018.

There are very few details about what this series might entail, but we do have the following casting information. James Franco, Zoe Kazan, Tyne Daly, Ralph Ineson, Bill Heck, Tim Blake Nelson, and Stephen Root are all set to appear in one role or another though Root may not be a regular cast-member. Other than these names, a casting call went out asking for "ordinary Nebraskans to appear as extras" with filming taking place in the Nebraska Panhandle and parts of New Mexico.

The series will mark the brothers' first time working in television, but like they do with their films, they aren't releasing very much information prior to its release date... which is also unknown at this time.

TROY: FALL OF A CITY

TROY FALL OF A CITY Set Picture

BBC One and Netflix have joined forces to bring Troy: Fall of a City to the small screen in 2018. The series will follow the love affair between Paris and Helen of Troy as well as the minor event that came from their union, the fall of the city of Troy.

Because it is a miniseries, it will only feature eight episodes, but those each come with a monstrous production cost of £8,500,000 per episode ($11.2 million) so we can rest assured knowing that BBC One and Netflix are investing heavily in the project.

Louis Hunter will star as Paris alongside Bella Dayne (Helen), David Threlfall (Priam), Tom Weston-Jones (Hector), Joseph Mawle (Odysseus), Johnny Harris (Agamemnon), David Gyasi (Achilles), Aimee-Ffion Edwards (Cassandra), and Hakeem Kae-Kazin as Zeus.

Netflix will stream the miniseries to markets outside of the United Kingdom while BBC One will handle release within.

BARRY

Bill Hader

Bill Hader is set to star as Barry in the same-titled series set to air on HBO in 2018. The series will follow the exploits of Barry, an ex-Marine, and killer-for-hire who works out of the Midwest but doesn't much care for his life. He travels to the west coast to fulfill a contract and ends up Los Angeles where he finds an accepting community of eager folks within the LA theater scene.

Alongside Hader, Henry Winkler, Stephen Root, Sarah Goldberg, Anthony Carrigan, and Glenn Flesher all join the cast. Hader will direct the series, which he is also co-writing with Alec Berg, who is best known for his work on Seinfeld, The Dictator, and Euro Trip.

The series will consist of an unknown number of 30-minute episodes and will mark Hader's directorial debut. He is also producing alongside Berg.

UMBRELLA ACADEMY

Umbrella Academy series promotional art

Umbrella Academy is set to jump off the printed page and onto Netflix in a 10-episode series based off the Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba comic series. The adaptation will be a live-action series following the estranged members of a dysfunctional family of superheroes. The family, also known as the Umbrella Academy, consists of The Monocle, Spaceboy, The Kraken, The Rumor, The Séance, Number Five, The Horror and The White Violin.

They work together to learn the mysteries of their father's death but don't work particularly well together due to their divergent personalities and abilities. Steve Blackman will serve as the series' showrunner. The Umbrella Academy is yet another of Marvel's properties to find a home on the streaming media service alongside Daredevil, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, The Punisher, and The Defenders.
