Truth Be Told Trailer: Octavia Spencer & Aaron Paul Star In Apple TV+ Series

Apple TV releases a new Truth Be Told trailer, the upcoming legal drama starring Octavia Spencer, Aaron Paul, and Lizzy Caplan.

A new Truth Be Told trailer is released, teasing the upcoming Apple TV+ limited series starring Octavia Spencer, Aaron Paul, and Lizzy Caplan. Set to launch on the first of November, Apple’s streaming service will be offering a variety of different shows to appeal to a broad base of potential subscribers. In the case of Truth Be Told, the plot looks to revolve around the criminal justice system in a way that brings the popularity of true crime podcasts to the screen.

Based on the novel Are You Sleeping by Kathleen Barber, the series will follow podcaster Poppy Parnell (Spencer) as she revisits the murder case that made her a household name. This brings her in direct contact with Warren Cave (Paul), the man she may have wrongly helped to put behind bars. If the premise sounds a little familiar, even reminiscent of the immensely popular first season of the podcast Serial, that’s not a coincidence. Sarah Koenig, who rose to prominence as the creator and host of Serial, is a consultant on the series. The first extended look at Truth Be Told leans into that familiarity, featuring several moments of the podcast host interviewing the convicted murderer.

The trailer begins with Parnell speaking to her audience: 18 years, she says, is how long Warren Cave has been in jail for murder. Although she wrote articles that helped to seal his fate, Parnell now has doubts about whether or not Cave was wrongly convicted. Cave, for his part, is not inclined to be charitable to Parnell. He’s angry at her for the way she wrote about him in her articles, portraying him as a privileged psychopath, and he’s doubtful that she’s sincerely looking for the truth. Regardless of Parnell’s motivations, it quickly becomes evident that there are other potential suspects who could be responsible for the murder. While the series is sure to feature a number of twists and turns, the message seems to be that public perception isn’t always reality.

All three of the leads in Truth Be Told have been involved in other high-profile projects. Spencer is coming off a highly praised, unsettling performance in Ma. Paul is returning to the role of Jesse Pinkman as well as lending his voice to the final season of BoJack Horseman. Caplan, the lead in Castle Rock season 2, will be portraying the twin daughters of the man that Cave murdered. The trio will star alongside Elizabeth Perkins, Ron Cephas Jones, and Mekhi Phifer.

Premiering on Apple TV+ in December, Truth Be Told is written by Nichelle Tramble Spellman. Spellman is also one of the executive producers on the series, as is Reese Witherspoon. Alongside The Morning Show and See, it’s evident that Apple TV+ is looking to begin its slate with diverse dramas that are headlined by very notable actors, like Truth Be Told.
