True Blood Season 4 Confirmed

True Blood Season 4 Confirmed

The highly anticipated third season of the hit HBO series True Blood just began last weekend but it's already been picked up for a fourth full season! The adult series by Alan Ball about vampires, other creatures and Anna Paquin's Sookie Stackhouse character has been gaining momentum, critical acclaim and a larger fanbase with each successive season. Last weekend's season 3 premiere demonstrated a 38% increase in viewership over the True Blood season 2 premiere.

In keeping with the standard HBO format and with the series structure so far, True Blood season 4 will begin next summer and again will run 12 episodes long.

In the two episodes that have aired thus far, we've been introduced to werewolves for the first time in the series and we're delving into the conspiracy of sacred vampire blood being sold to fund Queen Sophie-Anne's bad habits.

How will this season play out; what cliffhangers will we be left with; and what new characters and storylines will be introduced in season 4? We can expect that the salaries of the main cast will jump considerably, now that the group is hitting stardom and some are already gaining big roles in other projects. Alexander Skarsgård in particular was a leading candidate for the title role in Thor and he was just recently picked up for a key role in Peter Berg's Battleship.

Michael Lombardo, president of HBO programming:

"The new season of 'True Blood' is off to a terrific start, as enthusiasm for this unique show continues to build among both subscribers and critics... We're looking forward to more chills from Alan Ball and his gifted team next year."

The first two episodes of True Blood season 3, although entertaining, seem to be doing too much with too many characters and plots and it's really starting to take away from the characters we care about most. I'd be happy to see Tara killed off so I don't have to watch her scenes with her mom - an annoying and frustrating character the showrunners continue to bring back over and over.

It's early yet but I want to see some more Bill Compton and Eric Northman and a deeper look into the history and structure of the vampire kingdom as well as the extended lore (werewolves, shifters, etc.) that surrounds them.
