Netflix has released a new trailer for Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans, giving an in-depth look at Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming animated movie. The film will serve as a sequel to del Toro’s Tales of Arcadia trilogy, which includes the animated series Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia, 3Below: Tales of Arcadia, and Wizards: Tales of Arcadia, all of which have been produced by DreamWorks and released by Netflix. Rise of the Titans is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on July 21.

Del Toro began his Tales of Arcadia series in 2016 with the first season of Trollhunters, which introduced the franchise’s magical sci-fi/fantasy hybrid universe. Over the course of the three core series, Tales of Arcadia has introduced all manner of magical creatures, aliens, robots, sorcerers, monsters, and more. The franchise has received widespread critical acclaim and numerous award nominations over the past five years and featured the voices of big-time stars like Mark Hamill, Glenn Close, Anton Yelchin, Lena Headey, Emile Hirsch, Nick Offerman, Kelsey Grammer, Ron Perlman, and Steven Yeun.

The three Tales of Arcadia series are all joining together for the upcoming film Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans, which has now been revealed in a new trailer from Netflix. The footage features characters from across the Trollhunters, 3Below, and Wizards storylines, as well as some brand-new additions. There’s also a giant mech/monster ocean battle that looks strikingly like the fights from del Toro’s popular Pacific Rim film series. Check out the Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans trailer below.

Rise of the Titans will feature the return of many of Tales of Arcadia’s former stars, including Offerman, Hirsch, and Yeun. Their characters will once again have to save Arcadia – and the entire world – from utter destruction at the hand of the kaiju-sized, mega-powerful titans. For longtime fans of the franchise, it should be fun to see all three shows converge for such a big-budget crossover battle. Given how many characters are returning from the previous shows, however, the film may have less overall appeal to franchise newcomers.

Netflix has put an increased focus on its original animated content over the past couple of years, both for kids and older audiences. The streamer recently released The Wish Dragon on June 11, which has received a positive reception from critics. The new Trollhunters movie has the added benefit of the franchise’s preexisting popularity, which could make it a huge hit when it launches on July 21. And if the new trailer is any indication, Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans should be a fun and exciting family-friendly adventure.
