A new Trollhunters: Rise Of The Titans trailer teases a war between mankind and magic. On Tuesday, Netflix unveiled a massive slate of films to be released this summer, and Guillermo del Toro's latest installment in the Trollhunter series appears to be one of them. Though the Mexican filmmaker is best known for his Academy Award-winning fantasy films Pan’s Labyrinth and The Shape of Water, del Toro created the animated fantasy series Trollhunters for Netflix and Dreamworks in 2016 and it has been a passion project for the director since. The show was lavished with praise before concluding with a third and final season in 2018.
Trollhunters is set in the small town of Arcadia and follows a teenage boy who stumbles upon a mysterious amulet, leading to the discovery of a secret realm populated by trolls and other magical creatures. A second and third series set in the magical town, 3Below: Tales of Arcadia and Wizards: Tales of Arcadia, followed other stories such as stranded aliens and the battle for control of the town’s magical power. However, it was announced last August that the Trollhunter series will officially conclude with a feature-length film called Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans.
Now, fans have a first look at the film that will cap off del Toro’s series. Netflix released a teaser trailer for Trollhunters: Rise Of The Titans, which teases a “war between mankind and magic.” The 27-second trailer showcases a number of heroes from the original trilogy who must join forces to protect the town of Arcadia from those who wish to control its magic. The film’s initial announcement last August mentioned its star-studded voice cast that includes Steven Yeun, Alfred Molina, Nick Offerman, Emile Hirsch, Nick Frost, Diego Luna, Kelsey Grammer, and Cheryl Hines. Since then, a few names have been added to the lineup, including Lexi Medrano, Charlie Saxton, and Colin O'Donoghue. Its official synopsis teases an exciting team-up film as “the heroes from Trollhunters, 3 Below, and Wizards must team up to face a mysterious enemy who threatens to take over their worlds.”
Del Toro recently teased on Twitter that a big announcement was coming soon and he certainly delivered with a trailer, along with new images, for the culmination of his beloved series. Since Trollhunter has been praised as the best animated series since Avatar, hopefully Trollhunters: Rise Of The Titans can cap off the saga that began in 2016 with a satisfying conclusion when it releases on Netflix on July 21st.
