Triple H's wrestling days are behind him, but there's still plenty that the current generation of WWE superstars can learn from the veteran ring general. The Game has been involved in some of the company's most memorable matches and feuds in the ring and has served as a mentor to numerous up-and-coming talents outside of it. His impact on the current WWE product is immeasurable, even after his vision for NXT was shifted towards the current WWE NXT 2.0 product.

There's no denying that Triple H has left a mark on the wrestling industry, one way or the other. Stars of his caliber always have their detractors. Getting married to Vince McMahon's daughter will always rub certain folks the wrong way, but if you're a fan of Attitude Era WWE, then you're probably a fan of Triple H. The D-Generation X stable is one of the best and most influential of all time, and his work through the years will stand the test of time.

Scott Armstrong recently spoke about what made Triple H matches stand out so much, revealing the secrets that made Hunter's WWE work strong. “Look this is just how it was, he had a little leeway and he could use some bells and whistles and sometimes that included a ref bump or something," Armstrong said on the Oh You Didn't Know podcast recently. "So there was always something cool you could sink your teeth into when you had a match with him." (h/t to Wrestle Zone for the transcription)

WWE Triple H

Those "bells and whistles" are what makes Triple H matches divisive among some critics. Some purists don't like that most of his feuds devolved into falls count anywhere or Hell In A Cell bouts. Going back and watching those classics, though, it's impossible to say that the Cerebral Assasin didn't leave everything he could in the ring. He won't ever get confused for some work rate king, but not everyone in professional wrestling needs to be running around, doing back handspring stunners or dives to the outside to be entertaining.

Triple H had his own way of telling stories inside the ring, and by and large, his biggest angles are still remembered for their quality to this day. Even now, performers like Seth Rollins seem to take pages out of The Game's playbook, and numerous superstars—especially from the black and gold era of NXT—count him among their biggest influences. It's too bad that fans won't ever see Triple H inside of the ring as a performer again, but he's left behind plenty of enigmas for the upcoming generations to unpack. Comments like Armstrong's give WWE audiences just a touch more insight into what made working with Triple H so special.
