Some of the most useful items to bolster a Viking's success in combat in Tribes of Midgard are runes, but the mysterious Golden Egg Rune is causing a stir in the community. In Tribes of Midgard, players control Einherjar, a Viking hero who protects the Seed of Yggdrasil from vicious, fantastical enemies. Not unlike other games with a day/night cycle such as Minecraft, there are different things happening in the daytime versus the nighttime in Tribes of Midgard. During the daytime, players are tasked with exploring a procedurally generated world to collect resources. These resources are used for crafting new weapons, armor, and village defenses. At nighttime, enemies, including Jötunn bosses like Geirröðr, attack the player’s settlement to attempt to destroy the Seed of Yggdrasil. Players must collect the souls of enemies to sustain the seed’s life.

Weapons and items found throughout Tribes of Midgard will aid players in their quest for success. Runes are also beneficial during fights. They can be added to buff a player's stats or grant them new abilities. The Golden Egg Rune is one of the most elusive in the game, and there is only one way for players to get one. Here is how to get the Golden Egg Rune in Tribes of Midgard, and what it’s for.

Runes in Tribes of Midgard operate much like runes in other fantasy games. Players can find runes using various methods and equip them to gain certain effects to gameplay. There are five tiers of runes in Tribes of Midgard corresponding to their rarity and usefulness.

By equipping one of the 30 runes available, players will gain special powers. Every class in Tribes of Midgard can use up to five runes at any one time, while the Warden class can use up to six runes if they choose the Rune Carver skill. Runes like Far-Fetched give players increased damage to distant enemies, with about a 20% bump in damage dealt. Legendary runes like Soul Mate will give players two Souls per hit given but lose four Souls per hit received. Managing runes in Tribes of Midgard can make or break a nighttime period, so it is important to choose a loadout wisely.

One of the rarest and most legendary runes, the Golden Egg rune, proves to be immensely elusive. The only way to reliably find the Golden Egg is through a random drop. There is no set method to finding the Golden Egg rune other than playing Tribes of Midgard and waiting to run across it. However, finding a Golden Egg rune is not a pertinent task. This is because the Golden Egg rune seemingly does nothing. The player does not gain any buffs and the game is not affected by the Golden Egg rune. The legendary rune does not have any effect on the survival game mechanics in Tribes of Midgard. It is possible that in future updates, the Golden Egg Rune’s purpose will be revealed. As of now, this Rune's purpose in Tribes of Midgard remains a mystery.
