Trespass Against Us Trailer: Fassbender Chooses Between Crime & Family

Trespass Against Us - Michael Fassbender and Brendan Gleeson

After debuting at the Special Presentations section of the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival this past September, the crime drama Trespass Against Us starring Michael Fassbender (The Light Between Oceans) and Brendan Gleeson (Harry Potter) is all set to reach American audiences sometime in the near future. Serving as the directorial debut for frequent television filmmaker Adam Smith (Doctor Who) and written by Alastair Siddons, the new movie is all set to deliver a stirring story about the ties that bind individual family members to one another - no matter how toxic their relationships might be.

Starring as an intimately imagined father and son criminal duo, Fassbender and Gleason are set to star in what sounds to be among the more interesting directorial debuts of 2016. Smith has spent a significant amount of time working on various original television series for the BBC, which makes his debut feature something to approach with eager anticipation. On that note, the film's first official trailer paints quite the exciting picture of the new crime drama soon to come in Trespass Against Us proper.

In the footage featured above, distributor A24 offers an intriguing first look at Trespass Against Us that serves to paint a picture of a drama with the potential to attract some attention come time of awards season in early 2017. Fassbender and Gleason both appear to be at the very top of their respective games in what could result in a thrilling contemporary crime drama along the lines of such well-respected titles as A History of Violence and Eastern Promises.

Like the two aforementioned films directed by David Cronenberg, Trespass Against Us appears to offer an insightful look into the inner lives of some of the world's most violent men - as their criminal notoriety begins to encroach on the safety of their nuclear family. Smith looks to be quite sure of himself behind the camera, and Fassbender and Gleason are more than suitable subjects for the director's gaze and attention.

After premiering at TIFF last month, it remains to be seen how general audiences will respond to the new movie from first time director Adam Smith. That being said, it certainly doesn't hurt that Trespass Against Us stars such well-known character actors as Fassbender and Gleason, and could well result in a directorial debut worth checking out.

Trespass Against Us will see theatrical release in the U.K. on November 16, 2016, and arrives in the U.S. sometime thereafter.
