An all-new Transformers miniseries is being launched by comic publisher IDW that brings to life the return of an ancient evil in Transformers: Wars End! The Autobots and Decepticons have long been at odds with each other, since the creation of the Transformers back in 1984 with the launch of the Hasbro toy line. After the toys hit the shelves, Transformers found itself in nearly every form of media, from cartoons to movies and even comic books. Now, on the pages of an all new comic the Transformers look to the past after an ancient evil has awakened, ready to spread chaos across the cosmos once again.

While Transformers: Wars End will be a new addition to the franchise, the creative minds behind the four-part miniseries certainly are not. The writer behind the miniseries is Brian Ruckley who has been the architect behind the current Transformers continuity for IDW. Ruckley will be joined by fellow Transformers veteran Jack Lawrence, the artist behind Transformers: Lost Light, who will be handling the illustrations for the miniseries. The issues will also be available with multiple variant covers from fan-favorite artists including Angel Hernandez and E.J. Su.

“Wars End is about unfinished business: for both the characters and for Cybertron as a whole” said writer Brian Ruckley in an interview released by IDW along with the announcement of Transformers: Wars End. The writer continued, “It’s the return of Cybertron’s traumatic past to upend its present.” Ruckley wasn’t the only one involved with the project expressing his excitement, with artist Jack Lawrence chiming in saying, “The story is, understandably, darker and grittier than what I’ve worked on before, so I’m looking forward to going shadowy and ominous with it.”

While the writer and artist alluded to the style and plot of the new book, IDW Publishing does fans one better by making available a preview synopsis of what to expect. Transformers: Wars End will delve into the infamous warlord Exarchon who single-handedly plunged all of Cybertron into darkness many years ago. Now, Exarchon has returned and reunited with his former generals, Shockwave and Skywarp. While fans are left biting their nails in the anticipation of Exarchon’s evil deeds, another character is looking for even a glimmer of hope amid the oncoming darkness. Cyclonus, a warrior haunted by the horrors of the previous conflict, tests the allegiance of long-time Decepticon leader Megatron whose own evil deeds have caused all of civilization to fracture into warring factions.

While hope may seem lost before it even begins, history has shown fans that the Autobots always find a way to come out on top in the end. However, both the writer and artist said the new miniseries will be much darker than previous installments, so fans may be in for a rude awakening upon the series’ release. One thing is for sure, Transformers: Wars End will undoubtedly be a non-stop thrill ride for Transformers fans everywhere! Transformers: Wars End is available February, 2022.
