Transformers: War For Cybertron Trilogy, a new Netflix animated series, released a trailer for Chapter 1, "Siege," featuring Generation 1 designs of the titular robot heroes. The Transformers franchise began life as a 1984 toy line that spawned an animated series created to help sell more toys. The original animated series and a spin-off comic book were dubbed "Generation 1" by fans after subsequent sequels radically altered the designs of the characters.

After Generation 1, the series went through multiple animated iterations from 1993-2019. In that time, the franchise was also successfully adapted into a live-action film series directed by Michael Bay; however, Bay's Transformers were drastically redesigned, leaving fans longing for the Generation 1 designs to return. The Transformers movie generated four sequels, and a spin-off film focused on fan-favorite Bumblebee. Unlike the previous Bay-directed films, Bumblebee director Travis Knight embraced the Generation 1 character designs. Since then, fans have been clamoring to return to the G1 era of the robots in disguise.

Netflix released a trailer (via YouTube) for chapter 1 of a new animated series produced by Rooster Teeth called Transformers: War For Cybertron Trilogy. Each part of the trilogy contains six, 22-minute episodes, and the trailer for chapter 1, "Siege," sets up an epic battle between the Autobots and Decepticons on their home planet of Cybertron. Decepticons leader Megatron (Jason Marnocha) seeks the Allspark, a source of power for the entire planet, so he can reboot the citizens of Cybertron and unify the planet. However, the heroic Autobots, led by Optimus Prime (Jake Foushee), will do everything in their power to stop Megatron at all costs. Check out the trailer:

The art direction and character models for War For Cybertron: Siege lean heavily on the Generation 1 look, but with a modern, CGI-sheen that's breathtaking to behold. Siege seemingly takes place entirely on Cybertron, but Entertainment Weekly reports that Chapter 2 is titled "Earthrise," indicating the action moves to Earth in the trilogy's second installment. Chapter 3 has not been named, possibly to avoid spoilers, but the "Earthrise" subtitle hints at a revamped origin story for the Transformer's first interaction with humans once they arrive on Earth.

Marnocha and Foushee are joined by additional voice cast members Edward Bosco (Ultra Magnus, Soundwave), Bill Rogers (Wheeljack), Sophia Isabella (Arcee), Brook Chalmers (Impactor), Shawn Hawkins (Mirage), Kaiser Johnson (Ironhide), Linsay Rousseau (Elita-1), Joe Zieja (Bumblebee), Frank Todaro (Starscream), Rafael Goldstein (Ratchet), Keith Silverstein (Jetfire), Todd Haberkorn (Shockwave, Red Alert), Miles Luna (Teletraan I, Cliffjumper), and Mark Whitten (Sideswipe, Skywarp).

Hasbro's production studio, Allspark, and Polygon Pictures will produce the trilogy with Rooster Teeth. Netflix didn't give a release date for Transformers: War For Cybertron Trilogy, with the trailer only saying that the series was "coming soon" to the streaming service. Until then, the War For Cybertron action figure line will have to keep fans occupied.
