Transformers: Dark of the Moon is a little over two months away from invading theaters – which means that as rumors and speculation around Michael Bay’s final installment in the franchise is petering out, the Paramount marketing machine is ramping-up for an all-out attack.
According to a comment from Shoot for the Edit admin, Nelson, the new full length Dark of the Moon trailer will debut on Apple at 7pm EST on April 28th – prior to Fast Five midnight screenings. Furthermore, Albert Film Ratings has confirmed that the trailer itself (not the final film) has been rated PG and runs 2:24 in length.
Recently, we reported on Michael Bay’s candid commentary regarding the next film about the “Robots in Disguise” – with the director promising a giant Cybertronian-focused adventure with a much better story. While the teaser trailer garnered a lot of industry buzz as a result of its clever portrayal of the Apollo 11 mission as, not just a small step for mankind, but an investigation of a crashed alien space-ship on the moon. It was a clever piece of marketing (and a fun nod to the teaser for Transformers – which featured “found footage” of Starscream destroying the Mars rover) but didn’t give much indication of the story or the tone of the upcoming sequel.
Paramount was more forthcoming with their 30 second Dark of the Moon Super Bowl XLV spot (as well as subsequent TV spots) showing some interesting hybrid vehicle/robot combat modes – as well as the large-scale Decepticon invasion in Chicago.

Hopefully the second full-length trailer will succeed in plotting out some of the story beats – while also retaining enough to give audiences some great surprises when the film hits theaters. Bay isn’t notorious for spoiling all the surprises in his films – but, given the heavy focus on Devastator, in the later Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen marketing, there’s no doubt that Paramount is eager to show-off some of the bigger set-pieces and special effects from the upcoming film.
