After the completion of the first three Transformers films - which acted as somewhat of a standalone trilogy since they followed Shia LaBeouf's character Sam Witwicky - the franchise received a revamp by shifting the focus to Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg) in Transformers: Age of Extinction. However, the next installment in the series, Transformers: The Last Knight, will combine characters from both the first three movies and Age of Extinction in order to continue telling the story of Robots in Disguise.
Series helmer Michael Bay returned to the director's chair for The Last Knight when filming got underway in Cuba in May and has since been sharing updates from the set. Last month, Bay revealed a new Autobot created for Transformers 5 named Squeeks through photos and video from the set. Now, Bay has shared new photos, this time focusing on the human side of the action.
The official Transformers series Instagram shared a video (below) of The Last Knight's co-star Isabela Moner surfing down a subway car set piece. Additionally, the actress comments on what it's like to be in a Transformers film: "It's tough being in a Transformers movie, but it's really fun."
On his personal Instagram account, Bay shared a photo of himself directing a sequence involving at least two vehicles on rigs and "creating some wicked action." Plus, the director shared another shot from what appears to be the same action set piece (though not necessarily the same part of the sequence) and featuring more of the promised "wicked action" in honor of the Fourth of July. Take a look at the photos:
In addition to Bay and Wahlberg returning to the Transformers franchise, The Last Knight also marks the return of Josh Duhamel as William Lennox and Tyrese Gibson as Robert Epps. Joining the cast for the fifth film are Moner, Sir Anthony Hopkins, and Laura Haddock. In terms of the Autobots and Decepticons, many have received revamped vehicle modes that Bay has revealed on social media, including Bumblebee, Barricade, and Drift.
Of course, although Bay has been relatively forthcoming with images from the set of Transformers: The Last Knight and the main cast seems to locked in, we still don't know much about the plot of the film - for instance, how Megatron factors in to the movie - though plot rumors do give us some hint about what to expect. Still, considering the release date for Transformers: The Last Knight is only a little less than a year away, there's plenty of time for more official information to be released in the coming months.
Transformers: The Last Knight opens in U.S. theaters on June 23, 2017, followed by the Bumblebee spinoff on June 8, 2018, and Transformers 6 on June 28, 2019.
