Come next year, Michael Bay's Transformers franchise will turn 10 years old. Its hard to believe it has been that long since Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, and the rest of the Autobots encountered Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) and set this universe into motion. Since that point, the movies have opened the doors to have multiple connections to the history of humanity and Earth itself. They have so far been involved in the race to the moon, the building of pyramids, and the destruction of dinosaurs. Next up? King Arthur, the Excalibur sword, Nazis, and more when Transformers: The Last Knight hits.

These details do not paint a perfect picture as to what the plot of this movie will be, but with a trailer on the horizon, learning more about the premise of the fifth film in this franchise will be something many are looking for. However, the Transformers franchise has been built on the foundation of large action set pieces, explosions, and a focus on the human characters. Now, some behind the scenes photos from the set visit show more of the same.

Screen Rant was among a group of outlets that traveled to the set of The Last Knight during production and had the chance to watch Bay at work. One of the days highlighted a large set piece taking place and we can now share some photos from that day. Included in the gallery below are a shot of a scene from The Last Knight being filmed action; some set-up with Colonel William Lennox (Josh Duhamel); a photo featuring Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg) and Laura Haddock's unnamed character; and finally, a picture of a Q&A that reporters had with Bay.

No matter what one's opinion is on the quality of the Transformers franchise, it is nearly impossible to say that the action scenes are not the highlight of the movies. Each one seems to include even more of it - and while that may hurt the story in some instances, it is a model that has continued to work for Paramount. Based on the sheer number of action set pieces that have been shown in these photos, previous set photos, or any other source, it appears that The Last Knight will unsurprisingly continue this game plan.

As for these images in particular, there is only so much to take away from them. However, one of photos features something that may catch your attention (and thats not because our very own Ben Kendrick makes a cameo). Instead, the photo of Wahlberg shows him wielding a sword that looks very similar to Excalibur. The Last Knight's promotional materials to this point have points to the sword and its history being a potentially big piece to the movie's story. Why Cade is the one to carry it remains to be seen - but after he used alien tech in Transformers: Age of Extinction, it is hardly a surprise to see him once again looking to join the fight.
