'Transformers 3' Chicago Production Details Announced

Transformers 3 Chicago filming

It is no secret that Michael Bay goes big with every production, but his latest venture is borderline crazy. Transformers 3 producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura announced the details of the film's upcoming production around the Chicago metropolitan area. By closing down major streets for multiple days, the absurdity of this production has reached new heights.

A few weeks ago, Bay was denied access to the streets around The White House to film scenes for Transformers 3. He actually thought he would get the green light to set off controlled explosions around the nation's capitol. Needless to say, Michael Bay follows the motto that you won't get what you don't ask for.

Chicago has been more lenient with the explosive director. Mayor Richard Daley stood next to Bonaventura as he announced the epic street closures for the upcoming filming in July.

Any doubt that Chicago will be featured prominently in Transformers 3 have now been squashed. After The Dark Knight boosted the film industry in Chicago to unprecedented heights, Michael Bay now comes in to make The Dark Knight look like a student film.

"The city announced Thursday street closures in the Loop during three weekends in July. Filming is set to begin July 10, but the first road closures will begin at 8 p.m. on Friday, July 9. The streets will reopen Monday, July 12 at 5 a.m.LaSalle St. between Jackson and Randolph Washington between Wells and Clark Randolph between Wacker Drive and Wells. The Michigan Ave. bridge over the Chicago River will be closed 8 p.m. Thursday, July 16 through 5 a.m. July 19.The final road closure will occur 9 p.m. Sunday, July 18 through 5 a.m. Thursday, July 22 on Wacker Drive between Michigan Ave. and Wabash."

For those of you who do not know Chicago, these are the busiest locations in the entire city. The bridge at Michigan Ave., seen frequently in The Dark Knight, has hundreds of pedestrians and thousands of cars on it every hour. The production will now close this bridge for 57 straight hours. The same goes for the other street closures.

Our Chicago-based writers (SR is like Quantum in Bond: we have people everywhere ;-) ) will do their best to take photos of the production, but with filming happening in such a public forum there should be plenty of photos and set videos to go around.
