On The Traitors, the Faithfuls allegedly go to bed each night in a castle in the Scottish Highlands, wondering if they will be the next to be "murdered" by the three traitors, but Alan Cumming revealed the truth about those nerve-racking nights. The Traitors season 2 brought together reality TV stars from across the best reality TV shows, and it was a major hit. However, not everything is what it seems, and it's not just the lies that Traitors and Faithfuls tell each other in order to win the grand prize and infamy.

The contestants on The Traitors compete in a series of challenges in order to win a cash prize of up to $250,000. Based on a popular Dutch series of the same name, The Traitors is set in a remote castle in the Scottish Highlands. During the 10-episode series, three contestants, known as the Traitors, devise a plan to steal the prize from the rest of the competitors, who are called the Faithful. However, there may be other fake aspects of the show hidden behind the scenes. Do the contestants actually sleep in the castle, or do they reside somewhere else during filming?

Alan Cumming Revealed The Traitors Don't Sleep In The Castle

In an interview with the Daily Beast, Alan Cumming revealed that he and the contestants did not actually sleep in the castle during filming. The Traitors host Alan confessed that, although the Traitors contestants appear to go to bed in the castle, "Spoiler alert: None of us stayed in the castle. None of us." Alan went on to explain further about their sleeping situation.

He explained that, instead, the contestants "all stayed in the airport hotel in the Inverness airport [laughs]. How glamorous—you come to Scotland, and you stay in the Inverness airport hotel." Alan added that during filming for The Traitors, he "stayed in a little house in Inverness." Although he did not actually live in the castle, he had a room there "where I would get made up and dressed." Alan said that the room had "a huge bed in it. So I did actually sleep quite often but not overnight."

Some of the celebrity competitors from season 1, who include Rachel Reilly, Cody Calafiore, Cirie Fields, Stephenie LaGrossa Kendrick, Arie Luyendyk Jr., Brandi Glanville, Kate Chastain, Kyle Cooke, Reza Farahan, and Ryan Lochte, are shown going to sleep in their castle rooms at the ends of their long days of competitions, along with the non-celebrity competitors. In the morning, the civilian contestants, including Christian de la Torre, Michael Davidson, Andie Thurmond, Quentin Jiles, Shelbe Rodriguez, Geraldine Moreno, Robert "Bam" Nieves, Anjelica Conti, Azra Valani, and Amanda Clark, meet up with the celebrities for breakfast to see who survived the night.

Alan's revelation that The Traitors contestants did not really sleep in the castle overnight is shocking. Before each murder on The Traitors, some of them are shown getting ready for bed, getting under the covers, shutting off the lights, and going to sleep. At breakfast the next morning, they appear to be coming downstairs from their slumber, anxious to find out who survived the night. However, viewers now know that they are actually returning to the castle from a hotel, where they slept throughout the night.

Although Alan has given away a behind-the-scenes secret about The Traitors, it does not take away from how entertaining the show is. No matter where the competitors slept, the faithfuls still must have had restless nights wondering if they would be the next victim of the traitors. The concept is so different from other reality competition shows, so none of the contestants were fully prepared for how challenging it really was. Alan is brilliant as the host, with the perfect mix of intrigue and humor. It's unclear when The Traitors season 3 will return, but when it does, it's sure to be a hit.
