Tim Allen confirms that his friendship with Tom Hanks goes beyond their time together in the Toy Story films. The first fully animated movie, Toy Story was released in 1995 and was followed by three sequels, all starring Allen and Hanks playing the iconic duo of Buzz Lightyear and Woody, respectively. The Toy Story movies have all been critical and commercial hits, altogether making almost $3 billion at the box office worldwide.

During an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Allen was asked about being sighted with Hanks in public, which sparked speculation of a new Toy Story film. Allen clarified that the two have a close friendship and meet periodically for lunch throughout the year. Allen was quick to describe their long and ongoing friendship. See what Allen had to say about Hanks below:

"I adore that man’s heart and mind. Now it’s the most peculiar lunches . . . We’re like two older women ‘cause we will sit almost too close to each other at a booth. It’s just weird . . . I don’t think I’ve ever trusted a human being as much as Tom to even listen to me and vice versa. We have very different opinions on so many things, but he’s really a wonderful and engaging person. He’s the first guy to listen to me and doesn’t judge."

Buzz & Woody Remain An Iconic Pair

As seeing the two actors simply get a meal together immediately sparks speculation of a new Toy Story proves that Buzz and Woody are an iconic cinematic duo. Much like Allen and Hanks, the two can have opposing views, but still ultimately come together as friends. With the two characters surviving misadventures through four films, they have cemented themselves as animation legends for multiple generations. While Toy Story 4 saw the two going their separate ways - Buzz goes back to Bonnie's house while Woody decides to embark on an adventure with Bo Peep - the two are forever tied together.

Could Hanks & Allen Return For A Toy Story 5?

Toy Story Woody Laughing At Buzz

While it's unlikely that Woody's decision to spread his own wings will be thrown aside, a reunion with Buzz could always be set up. It would make for a touching moment in a Toy Story 5, the kind of moment the Toy Story movies aren't strangers to. As the two characters are synonymous with the franchise, it would be impossible to imagine a sequel film without them together.

As Lightyear was the first time a Toy Story related movie was a flop, it may mean the return of Woody and Buzz. Given how Allen and Hanks still remain close and genuinely seem to enjoy their characters, it would make sense to see them in another sequel. Not many iconic cinematic duos indulge in friendships once the camera stops rolling and generations of fans would want to see the two together again on screen.
