Toy Story 5 is now in development at Disney, and the movie's villain should be a returning character from the original Toy Story. The Toy Story franchise has had not one but two perfect endings, as both Toy Story 3 and Toy Story 4 had much more mature and emotional third acts than any animated movie has any right to have. But those endings essentially make Toy Story 5 unnecessary, and it risks ruining the franchise's legacy. As great as they are, the Toy Story movies have become predictable, and to be successful, the fifth entry will need to pull off a mind-blowing narrative.

The films have made Disney so much money, they're why many subscribe to Disney+, and the money Disney has made in merchandising alone is unfathomable. As the Toy Story movies have made billions of dollars, it only makes sense that Disney would want to make a fifth movie in the series, even if Toy Story 4 did perfectly end the series. But there's a clever way Toy Story 5 can connect to the original movie better than any of the other sequels. One returning character would not only be the perfect villain to definitively end the series, but it'd clear up a decades-long mystery too.

Sid Would Be The Perfect Toy Story 5 Villain

Though it was more of an Easter egg than anything, Sid did briefly appear in Toy Story 3. The garbage man is wearing Sid's classic Toy Story skull t-shirt, hinting that the bully dropped out of school. However, a lot still needs answering. Though humans have no idea that toys are living things, Sid found out when Woody led an attack on him with the toys that he had dissected and mutated. Though Sid was a bully in the movie, he was just a child, and seeing toys come to life would surely have affected his behavior, how he grew up, and his overall outlook on the world.

What happened to Sid after Toy Story, and did he tell anyone or keep it to himself? Either way, he had to deal with some major trauma, especially as no other toys came to life in front of him ever again. This is why Sid would be the perfect villain to end the Toy Story franchise. Given that people probably thought Sid was crazy when he tried telling people, he's likely been attempting to devise an elaborate plan to expose the toys ever since. Not only would this bring the series full circle, but it'd be a completely original and refreshing change of pace when it comes to villains.

Toy Story's Toy Villains Are All Too Similar

Though Sid was the villain in the original movie, that was over 30 years ago, and every sequel has featured a toy villain that all had the same motives and backstories. Toy Story 3's Lots-O and Toy Story 4's Gabby were abandoned by their owners, forcing them to take drastic measures on the toys around them. And though she isn't a villain, Jessie had the same backstory in Toy Story 2. Unfortunately, when it comes to the villain, the animated series has gotten so repetitive and predictable. Toy Story 5 can't have another toy villain. Otherwise, it has the same origin problem, but Sid's reintroduction is the perfect solution.
