Following what was initially assumed to be the conclusion to the much celebrated animated property from Disney and Pixar in 2010, Toy Story 4 is currently underdevelopment as a romantic-comedy featuring specific toys, and not an outright continuation of the story following Toy Story 3. More recently, it was revealed that those individually selected toys will be non-other than Woody and Bo Peep, whose specific coupling will be the central narrative draw for the new film.
Given the unknown whereabouts of the formerly mentioned cowboy's paramour, the next Pixar sequel to be set within the Toy Story universe will feature a journey of sorts to find and secure the wayward shepherdess. While many voice actors, including Tom Hanks and Annie Potts as the featured lovers, will be returning to fulfill their pre-established roles, certain new cast members are an inevitability, and word has it that the first newcomer just might have been found.
Fresh off her Oscar-winning turn in the critically acclaimed Boyhood, Patricia Arquette is currently being courted for a role in the new film from co-directors John Lasseter and Josh Cooley. According to The Wrap, Arquette is being sought after to portray a hippie mother in a script co-written by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack. An unnamed Disney representative declined to comment any further, though the new movie from the studio is currently slated to release in June 2018, coming out between the sequels to Godzilla and Jurassic World.
After Arquette's stunning turn as a put-upon care-giver in Richard Linklater's aforementioned drama from last year, it will be intriguing to see the real-life matriarch take on the role she has come to know so well in the realm of animated fantasy. Just where her new character will fit into the dynamics between the already established characters and world is still unknown, though the film's capable crew behind the camera undoubtedly already have a few conceivable ideas up their sleeves already.
It will be hard to surmount the highs already achieved and predominantly established in what many moviegoers consider to be one of the greatest feature film trilogies of all time. Thankfully, Lasseter and company will not be attempting an outright sequel, and the story that they plan to tell should hopefully provide those viewers left contemplating the previously alluded fate of Bo Peep some closure and satisfaction regarding the well known character.
Toy Story 4 will see theatrical release on June 15th, 2018.
