Toy Story 4 Trailer Teases Pixar's Latest Emotional Adventure

Toy Story 4 Woody

The newest trailer for Toy Story 4 is now available online. Nine years after Andy bid farewell to Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and the rest of his beloved group of toys, Pixar is bringing their flagship franchise back for (at least) one more feature. Toy Story 4 took the bumpy road to the big screen - particularly in regards to the script - but director Josh Cooley kept a steady hand on the project and it stayed on course for its premiere this summer. And while fans of a certain age are questioning the film's existence, comments by Tom Hanks and Tim Allen suggest Toy Story 4 will be just as poignant as its predecessors.

Pixar began the marketing campaign for the film late last year, unveiling a collection of teaser trailers and posters that introduced new characters and acclimated viewers with the movie's carnival setting. But as has become par for the course with the studio, many (if not all) of these materials consisted of footage made specifically for the previews, only hinting at the larger story beats and themes. Now, with roughly three months to go until the film debuts, it's time to peel back the curtain a little further.

Today, Pixar unveiled a full-length trailer for Toy Story 4. Watch it for yourself, and see the latest poster, in the space below:

The trailer emphasizes how integral newcomer Forky is to the narrative, as he's the most important toy to Bonnie at this point in her life. Unfortunately, Forky is plagued by an existential crisis and firmly believes his purpose is to be a spork for one meal before getting tossed in the trash (leading to him escaping from the family's RV under cover of darkness). It's up to Woody to take Forky under his wing and explain the benefits of being a loved toy, helping create everlasting memories for a kid. However, Woody's perspective on life is turned upside down when he's reunited with his old crush Bo Peep, who's significantly changed since her last appearance in Toy Story 2. Admittedly, some of Bo's dialogue harkens back to thematic territory covered in the previous films, but hopefully there are some twists and turns along the way to mix up the formula. Hanks couldn't bear to look at the filmmakers when recording his final scenes, so Pixar might have something very emotional up their sleeve.

Viewers will obviously have to wait until the movie premieres to find out if it was worth revisiting this property several years later, but Toy Story 4 looks like it has potential to be a strong installment that adds a compelling chapter to one of the most iconic series in the business. Even if it's similar to Finding Dory and Incredibles 2 in the sense that it doesn't scale the heights of its predecessors, Pixar's track record is substantial enough now that it would be very surprising if Toy Story 4 dropped the ball completely. In all likelihood, it'll be an entertaining and heartfelt adventure that may even bring a tear to the eyes of audiences.
