It’s hard to believe that 14 years have passed since animation upstart Pixar dared to challenge big papa Disney in the animated feature film genre by releasing their GGI animated masterpiece, Toy Story. Until 1995, there had never been a feature-length CGI film released and it was a big gamble by Pixar to make one. It was a gamble, however, that paid off for them big time. Four years later, Pixar released Toy Story 2 - which was just as big a hit - and not long after that Pixar got bought up by Disney.
Pixar is still considered to be the standard by which all CGI films are gauged against and with films like WALL-E, Cars and Monsters, Inc., they are sure to stay on top. Next up for Pixar is Toy Story 3 and judging by the teasers and trailer that have been released, this third installment is going to be just as popular. Today we have a new clip from Toy Story 3 to share, courtesy of Yahoo! Movies.
According to IMDB, Toy Story 3 follows the gang of Andy’s toys as they get left behind and end up at a day care while Andy goes off to college. Several years have passed and the animation has gotten a lot better since 1994, which is evident by the clip below. Enjoy:
“Humans” were always the hardest part for Pixar (or any other animation studio for that matter) but they seemed to have made great strides in that department. Andy, his mom and his sister all look pretty good but the toys and other surroundings look better than ever. Leave it to Pixar, though, to tell an interesting and easy to follow story in less than 2 minutes. Viewers know exactly what is happening, and what is about to happen the entire time. You can feel yourself thinking, ”No Andy! Don’t leave that trash bag lying on the floor.” Then, sure enough, Andy’s mom walks in and out the door go the toys, with the garbage truck rumbling down the street.
Toy Story 3 brings back all of our favorites - Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), Jessie (Joan Cusack), Rex the Green Dinosaur (Wallace Shawn), Mr. Potato Head (Don Rickles) and the ever-present Hamm the Piggy Bank (John Ratzenberger). Joining the toys on their lively adventures this time around are Barbie’s boyfriend Ken (Michael Keaton), Mr. Pricklepants (Timothy Dalton) and Lotso Love bear (see below), who has yet to have a voice actor named. (Thanks to /Film for the heads up on Lotso.) It turns out that Lotso could be the new villain for Toy Story 3.
I don’t know about you, but I’m excited to watch Toy Story 3 on the big screen with my kids. Even though I’ve watched the first two films a gazillion times, I still get a kick and snicker out of seeing them.
What do you think about the new clip and the possible new character/villain for Toy Story 3?
Toy Story 3 comes out to play in 3D and IMAX theaters everywhere June 18th, 2010.
