As promised last week, Creative Assembly and Sega unleashed a first look at Total War: Warhammer III gameplay during today's long-awaited reveal showcase. The two companies unveiled the latest chapter in the strategy franchise earlier this year with a rather intense announcement trailer.

Though the promise of a new Total War: Warhammer installment has lingered in the background for months, developers Creative Assembly and Feral Interactive also delivered a new version of an old adventure with Total War: Rome Remastered. The remaster of the acclaimed strategy title boasted 4K resolution support, multiple gameplay refinements, in-game camera improvements, and a fair few visual enhancements. Alexander and Barbarian Invasion DLCs additionally counted as part of the Total War: Rome Remastered package, but fans will especially want to keep an eye on what's coming next for the long-running series.

Earlier today, Creative Assembly hosted a "Global Gameplay Reveal" showcase on Total War's YouTube channel for the eagerly-anticipated Total War: Warhammer III. One segment of the reveal offered an extensive look at a new game mode called Survival Battle, which drops players into "the heart of enemy territory." The mode tasks users with spending supplies on buffs, barricades, traps, and projectile towers. In the reveal video, Creative Assembly shows off a Khorne vs Kislev battle, wherein the player must invade Khorne's well-defended domain.

The extensive footage on display throughout today's event answered several questions about what players can anticipate in terms of Total War: Warhammer III's gameplay mechanics and various battle tactics. One question continues to linger, however - When exactly will the sequel launch? At the very least, Warhammer III's previously announced 2021 launch window remains intact. Preorders are live, too, boasting a free Race Pack for all who secure a copy of the game ahead of release.

Creative Assembly has helmed more than a dozen Total War game since the property's debut over 20 years ago. The most recent entry, Total War Saga: Troy, launched late last summer, letting players loose in the Trojan War era. Obviously, the return of Warhammer means Creative Assembly is taking another break from historical settings to focus on exploring a far more fantastical experience.
