'Total Recall' Featurette: Quaid & His Lovely Ladies

Total Recall Behind the Scenes Featurette Kate Beckinsale Jessica Biel Colin Farrell

By now, the world at large has had a chance to take in the trailer for Total Recall, a re-interpretation of the famous Philip K. Dick short story "We Can Remember It For You Wholesale" that's also being billed as a partial remake of the 1990 film by Robocop director Paul Verhoeven, famously starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sharon Stone.

Reaction to Total Recall (2012) has been mixed; some fans like the aesthetic of the sci-fi world director Len Wiseman (Underworld, Die Hard 4) has created, while others are still bemoaning the prospect of Hollywood recycling yet another beloved property. Then there are those (latecomers) who are newly shocked to learn that someone is 'remaking a 'classic.'' Right.

We here at Screen Rant know too well just what kind of uphill battle the new Total Recall is facing. If you listen to the latest episode of our Screen Rant Podcast you'll also hear us predict - what is now proving to the actual case of - how Columbia Pictures plans to sell this movie: by putting leading lovelies Kate Beckinsale (Underworld) and Jessica Biel (Blade 3) front and center in promo materials like today's Total Recall behind-the-scenes featurette. Oh, and star Colin Farrell also gets a little time shine...

Get ready to see more and more of Beckinsale and Biel out there promoting this flick. To provide a signature "Outlaw analogy," this is kind of like being offered a new drink to try in a nightclub: at first, you're wary of the prospect; that is, until you get a look at the girls walking around holding that tray of samples. Suddenly, every man in the place wants a taste (of the drink, fellas... of the drink).

In Total Recall's case, Beckinsale (taking over Sharon Stone's role as Doug Quaid's faux wife) and Biel (taking over Rachel Ticotin's role as "Hauser's" girlfriend in the rebellion) are the perfect incentive to make that key male demographic give this film a try... And of course, Farrell is not without his charms, either.

Total Recall will be in theaters on August 3, 2012.
