The Challenge kicked off season 38, and veteran challenger, Tori Deal, says this season was the most difficult to compete on. Every season The Challenge has new twists, and the most recent is pairing up the contestants with their "ride or dies," someone they can trust to have their best interest in mind. This season, Tori is teamed up with her former enemy, turned ride or die, Devin Walker. While Tori and Devin seem to have a good team dynamic, it could all go up in smoke when Tori's ex-fiance, Jordan Wiseley, makes his return to MTV.
Prior to the premiere of The Challenge: Ride or Dies, Tori sat down with EW to share what audiences could expect from this season. "It was the hardest season I've ever endured when it comes to just emotional well-being," says Tori. The last time Tori and Jordan appeared on television together, Jordan was getting down on one knee to propose to Tori on War of the Worlds 2. Tori explains that when Jordan entered this season of The Challenge, "It was the first time I saw him since we had broken up, and we weren't on good terms." MTV has had great success when it comes to having exes compete against each other on The Challenge, and have even had seasons where exes had to compete on the same team together.
Tori & Devin Have Come A Long Way On The Challenge
Tori and Devin haven't always been ride or die for each other. As recently as last season, Tori tried to assist her "showmance," Emanuel Neagu, in his attempt to eliminate Devin in a puzzle challenge. When Tori was asked if she had concerns about having Devin as a partner she said, "A hundred percent...He goes into a house and stirs the pot. And he's a self-proclaimed hater." Audiences have certainly seen this side of Devin in the past, but Tori doesn't seem to have any plans of stopping him, explaining, "We don't hold each other back from being ourselves." While his antics may not be best for their chances of winning, Devin always brings drama to The Challenge, and fans are sure to be entertained.
Based on the trailer, it seems the Tori and Jordan drama will come to a boiling point this season, but she does have the benefit of Jordan being paired with her best friend and podcast co-host, Aneesa Ferreira, which could potentially keep her out of hot water. Tori and Devin on their own are no slouches on The Challenge. They have both made the final multiple times, although neither have been able to bring home a win. In the first episode of Ride or Dies, Tori and Devin were able to complete a difficult maze handily against married couple, Kailah Casillas and Sam Bird, in the first elimination of the season.
Ultimately, Tori and Devin seem like one of the teams to beat on Ride or Dies, despite their past coming back to haunt them. The pair have found success in recent seasons by making deals, creating chaos, and exchanging whispers with the entire house. It should be interesting to see how they navigate their past relationships, along with their new relationships, as the rookies of season 38 seem adamant to take out the veterans.
