In Torchlight 3, players must defend Novastraia from invasion and brave a new steampunk frontier with friends and allies. They will need to choose a class, master their powers, equip a relic to enhance their abilities, build a fort, and explore the dungeons and towns on the frontier, alone or with friends. There are four classes players get to choose from when beginning their adventure: Dusk Mage, Forged, Railmaster, and Sharpshooter. If players have ever dreamed of becoming a murderous steampunk robot, they can experience it by playing as the Forged. This class builds up heat and launches explosive attacks on enemies. Players can also build their Forged character as a tank to withstand punishing blows.

If players want to be able to mow down hordes of enemies while still staying tanky and strong, they may want to try the less traditional Clockwork Lawnmower build for their Forged hero. This build focuses on mobility, allowing the Forged to command the battlefield while also spinning and cutting down enemies in its wake. For players looking for a more damage-dealing tank build for their Forged, here's how to spec the Clockwork Lawnmower in Torchlight 3.

The Best Build For the Forged in Torchlight 3

The Drain skill for the Clockwork Lawnmower build in Torchlight 3

The Clockwork Lawnmower build is all about movement on the battlefield. To achieve it, players will need to have the Blood Drinker Relic. This will allow them to master a set of skills that revolve around their robot character spinning, dealing sawblade-like damage to everything in its path. The core active skills this build relies upon are:

  • Drain
  • Cyclone Mode
  • Vortex Bomb (Vent)
  • Dance of Death

The key to the build is Drain, so players should invest in maximizing this skill. Drain is enhanced by Cyclone Mode, which is the primary damage skill. This should also be maxed out. Cyclone Mode will allow the Forged to position themselves within a group of enemies, and Drain provides a source of powerful AOE burst damage to those enemies. Vortex Bomb will be the primary Vent skill, and players should set it off once Cyclone Mode has placed them in the fray. Finally, Dance of Death allows the Forged to take on more elite enemies or larger groups.

Players will also want to invest in several support skills with this build. Typically, the support skills will provide defense and mobility and enhance the effectiveness of active skills. The Clockwork Lawnmower should have:

  • Power Projection
  • Sonic Pulse
  • Fracking Strike (Vent)
  • Poison Dart
  • Ramming Robot

Power Projection and Sonic Pulse weaken enemies for a defensive boost. Poison Dart can provide an extra method of dealing damage, and Fracking Strike should be built up over time as a more effective Vent skill than Vortex Bomb for boss encounters. Finally, Ramming Robot offers further mobility and helps the Forged escape enemies quickly.

The Forged enters the battlefield in Torchlight 3

The passives for the Clockwork Lawnmower aren't incredibly exciting, but they do offer supplements that make the build even more powerful. The recommended ones are:

  • Rupture
  • Energizer
  • Bloody Chalice

Energizer will increase the Relic's energy, allowing the Forged to use Drain and Dance of Death more often. Bloody Chalice makes it easier for players to pick up dropped chalices for extra healing and defense while their character is using Cyclone Mode.

As for gear, players will want to give their Clockwork Lawnmower a Bleeding Weapon. They will want to add legendarium items like Arc-Powered Treads, which increases the rate at which Drain and Dance of Death can be cast and fills the Relic Energy bar quickly, Unstable War Arm, which provides a damage boost when casting Vortex Bomb, and Arc-Powered Shoulders, which increase Dance of Death's effectiveness.
