While Mantzoukas has a penchant for portraying eccentric and unhinged characters he's displayed an incredible range. And despite the majority of his roles being relatively similar he still manages to make each one nuanced and memorable.

Xander from Sleeping with Other People (2015)

Appearing alongside Jason Sudeikis and Alison Brie in this romantic-comedy. In Sleeping with Other People, Mantzoukas portrays Xander, Jake (Sudeikis)'s co-worker/best friend and a family man who is sick of his friend's sexual exploits screwing up his and his family's social life.

He strongly recommends Jake invite Lainey (Brie) to his child's birthday party. This is one of Mantzoukas' more mild-mannered and reserved roles. While the character does flare up occasionally he was mostly collected, down-to-earth but alike his other performances wicked hilarious.

Chef Lugosi from Comedy Bang! Bang! (2013-2015)

A cross between Bela Lugosi and Emeril Lagasse. On Comedy Bang! Bang!, Lugosi's an acclaimed chef who happens to be a 600-year-old vampire. In the sketch, he puts on a cooking demonstration and displayed his culinary skills but the interviewer consistently poked fun at the fact he's a vampire and made several puns alluding to this. Lugosi grew increasingly frustrated but the interviewer and the crew members couldn't help themselves.

Despite his few brief appearances, it was one of Mantzoukas' sillier roles. Mantzoukas has also participated in the podcast of the same name that's based on the series.

Nadal from The Dictator (2012)

In The Dictator, Nadal was the director of Wadiya's nuclear program before being "executed" after questioning  Admiral-General Supreme Leader Aladeen (Sacha Baron Cohen)'s plans. He later ended up in NYC and reconciled with a now insecure Aladeen.

They regularly meet up at cafes where they riff off potential material and indulge each other with their chaotic lives. Audiences relished watching Kyle and were genuinely sad he only appeared in one episode in season two. Yet, Mantzoukas explained this was due to scheduling conflicts.

Dennis Feinstein from Parks and Recreation (2011-2020)

On Parks and Recreation, Dennis was a prominent perfume manufacturer and grade A tool. He was also a quirky and peculiar character. He changed his name from Dante Fiero to Dennis Feinstein because he perceived the latter sounded more exotic.

His hobbies included hunting drugged foxes that were imported from Russia and also humans. His dehumanizing nature translated too playing with people's emotions and performing cruel actions such as berating his employee in front of people. Mantzoukas recently reprised the role of a Parks and Recreation reunion special.

Woman and man together

Jason Mantzoukas and Stephanie Beatriz in Brooklyn Nine-Nine

A loose-cannon detective who'd been undercover for twelve years. On the surface, Pimento's an intimidating person. Those at the precinct were frightened by Pimento's presence and history.

Despite his paranoid behavior and brash demeanor, he managed to befriend Jake and Charles. He was also involved in a loving but complicated relationship with Rosa that almost wound up in marriage before it inevitably ended.

Jay Bilzerian from Big Mouth (2017-present)

The character of Jay's an aspiring magician, sex-crazed preteen, and one of Big Mouth's breakout characters. At the beginning of the series, Jay came from a messed up family and was a friend of the three central characters; Nick, Andrew, and Jessi.

As he explores his sexuality he realizes he's bisexual and has a poignant journey to reaching this revelation and despite initially struggling with people's reaction to this news is assured by Ali that he's brave for coming out. Mantzoukas did a marvelous job of being hilarious while also authentically conveying Jay's torment.
