Screen Rant can exclusively reveal that not only will Top Gun: Maverick debut in ScreenX theaters, but it will do so with the most ScreenX content ever in a feature film. The long-awaited sequel to 1986's Top Gun is finally releasing in theaters on May 27 after several delays, and it will re-introduce audiences to Pete "Maverick" Mitchell (played by Tom Cruise). Already nearing the top of 2022's highest-grossing releases, the film has already amassed dazzling reviews as well.

Top Gun: Maverick, directed by Joseph Kosinski, follows Maverick as he attempts to train the next generation of pilots. In particular, the film focuses on his dynamic with the son of his fallen partner, Nick "Goose" Bradshaw (Anthony Edwards), nicknamed "Rooster" (Miles Teller, The Offer). In addition to the questions raised by their apparently tense relationship, fans have also been primed to expect some impressive flying sequences - and Paramount Pictures' marketing has emphasized how many of these scenes involved stunt participation from Cruise and the rest of the cast.

With such a visual feast ahead, it's no wonder that Top Gun: Maverick is set to have 56 minutes of added imagery in the stunning format that CJ 4DPLEX is known for. The film will be available worldwide on the visually immersive 270-degree panoramic ScreenX theaters starting May 27, but fans in the US will have the opportunity to can the film early on Tuesday, May 24 at 7PM at select locations. The poster art below provides only a taste of how expansive the view can be when witnessing Maverick take to the skies once more.

Jongryul Kim, the CEO of CJ 4DPLEX, shared his enthusiasm for the endeavor in the following statement:

Thirty years after the original, Paramount Pictures once again takes the daring adventures of Pete “Maverick” Mitchell to new heights. We would like to thank Tom Cruise, Joe Kosinski and everyone at Paramount Pictures for their collaboration and visionary input to make the ScreenX experience a truly unique and exclusive moviegoing experience.

CEO & President of CJ 4DPLEX America, Don Savant, added his sentiments on the important collaboration:

We are thrilled to invite audiences to take flight and watch Top Gun: Maverick in ScreenX. Our immersive premium film format is a great match for this film and will provide one of the most unique ways to experience Top Gun: Maverick that can’t be replicated anywhere else.

The truth in that last sentence cannot be denied, as ScreenX’s peripheral 3-screen design is currently the only one that allows audiences to take in such a large amount of extra imagery. This will certainly add to the rush of watching Maverick fly and help immerse viewers in climactic jet fighting scenes with the Top Gun crew. CJ 4DPLEX worked in tandem with both the director and Paramount Pictures to capture the appropriate footage for the ScreenX presentation of the film, and fans will be able to reap the benefits on 372 ScreenX screens worldwide - not to mention 71 screens in North America across Regal Cinemas, Cineplex, B&B Theatres, Cinepolis and CGV Cinemas.
