Tom Cruise thanks Top Gun 2 fans while in the middle of doing a stunt for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning. Cruise’s unflagging commitment to creating truly thrilling cinematic experiences paid off in a huge way this year, when his long-awaited sequel Top Gun: Maverick soared to $1.45 billion at the worldwide box office. But Cruise obviously isn’t finished yet, as he’s currently hard at work making not one but two new installments in his long-running action-thriller series Mission: Impossible.Proving that he’s one of the world’s great multi-taskers as well, Cruise just made a video in which he thanks fans for making Top Gun: Maverick such a huge hit while literally in the middle of shooting a stunt for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning. Cruise’s favorite writer-director Christopher McQuarrie shows up in the clip as well, sensibly strapped into an aircraft seat while Cruise goes back-first into a terrifying skydive over the coast of South Africa. Everything We Know About Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning

Hayley Atwell Mission Impossible 7

The two-part Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning will, it has been revealed, mark the end of the road for action hero Ethan Hunt. Returning alongside Cruise for the farewell films are series mainstays Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson and Vanessa Kirby, alongside newcomers Haley Atwell, Shea Whigham and Pom Klementieff. Back in the fold after a long absence from the franchise is the character of Eugene Kittridge, played again by Henry Czerny. Also joining the fun is Esai Morales, who plays the first film’s main antagonist. Holt McCallany and Nick Offerman are both also hopping aboard for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two.

Plot details about both movies are naturally being kept under wraps for the time-being. But a recently-released Mission: Impossible 7 trailer did offer plenty of teases, including underwater action, a possible love story for Ethan and Ferguson’s Ilsa, a big chase through Rome for Ethan and Atwell’s Grace and Klementieff’s villainous role. Dead Reckoning – Part One will also feature some major stunts, including a huge motorcycle jump for Cruise and a final chase sequence set aboard a train. A few Dead Reckoning – Part Two stunts, including one that required Cruise to learn how to fly a biplane, have been teased as well.

There has naturally been plenty of speculation as well about the fate of Cruise’s Ethan Hunt, given that seemingly ominous Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning title. But it remains to be seen whether Hunt will ultimately die or be given a chance to ride off into the sunset. Meanwhile, Cruise fans can enjoy some more of his signature action from the safety and comfort of home when Top Gun 2 hits Paramount+ on December 22, 2022.
