Just revealed images from Top Gun: Maverick show Miles Teller, Glen Powell and more new cast members ready to ride into the Danger Zone. Released in 1986, the original Top Gun soared on the wings of Tom Cruise’s superstar-making performance and jetted to a worldwide box office gross of $365 million.

Cruise of course went on to many other projects, building on his box office credentials while solidifying his place as one of the biggest action stars of all-time. Now, over thirty years after Top Gun fueled his initial rise to stardom, Cruise will revisit the iconic role of Maverick for the long-awaited sequel. Joining Cruise is a cast of both veteran and young actors, including Teller as “Rooster” Bradshaw, the son of Maverick’s late co-pilot Goose.

The latest Top Gun: Maverick trailer was released back in December, and at least going by the clip, the movie is going to be filled with some crazy and incredibly realistic aerial action (indeed, Cruise stipulated that his co-stars all be able to handle flying in real life jets before they joined the film). Now, a slew of new images is giving fans a closer look at the younger cast members getting set to feed their need for speed alongside Cruise’s Maverick (via Top Gun on Twitter). See the images in the space below:

Monica Barbaro as Phoenix in Top Gun Maverick
Glen Powell as Hangman in Top Gun Maverick
Jay Ellis As Payback In Top Gun Maverick
Danny Ramirez as Fanboy In Top Gun Maverick
Lewis Pullman as Bob in Top Gun Maverick

First off of course is Teller as Rooster, who shares plenty in common with his father Goose (played by Anthony Edwards in the original film), including taste in facial hair. Monica Barbaro is also featured as Phoenix, who brings a female presence to the fighter pilot roster (the original Top Gun of course only featured women as love interests). Powell, who was originally up for the role of Rooster, plays Hangman (a name that is intriguingly close to Iceman), together with Jay Ellis as Payback, Danny Ramirez as Fanboy and Lewis Pullman who goes by the somewhat uninspired call sign Bob.

Not included among the new images are Jon Hamm, Ed Harris or Jennifer Connolly, all new entrants to the Top Gun universe. Also not featured is Val Kilmer who is returning as Iceman (for what may prove to be a very brief and sad appearance, at least going by the latest theories).

There’s not a lot of new information contained in these latest images, but the pictures do give audiences a chance to take in how the new cast members look in their flight suits, all ready to take to the skies with Cruise and company. It will be interesting to see how old and new are blended when Top Gun: Maverick hits theaters, especially considering how much the military and indeed the world at large has changed since the original movie came out. Thankfully, one thing that hasn’t changed is Cruise’s willingness to go all-out to give the audience an experience. If nothing else, Cruise has only grown more dedicated to practicing his craft.
