The Emmy-nominated, animated, satirical news program recently switched its format, airing weekly half-hour episodes rather than individual segments. New episodes of Tooning Out the News premiere Fridays on Paramount+.
Anchor James Smartwood (voiced by R.J. Fried) leads the cast of Tooning Out the News. The new format of the show features three segments that focus on the topical news of the day, the week’s most dominating stories, and special guests. The weekly episodes will be made up of the current show segments: "Big News," "The Establishment," "Virtue Signal," "Hot Take," "Inside The Hill," and "Smart Talk Tonight". Upcoming guests on Tooning Out the News include Norman Lear, Jennifer Rubin, Malcolm Gladwell, Reverend Al Sharpton, Chris Hadfield, and more.

Of course, Hamill is best known for playing Luke Skywalker in Star Wars while Shatner is known for bringing Captain James Kirk to life in Star Trek. Both men have become icons to generations of fans who love the franchises. Recently Shatner has taken his position as a starship captain to the next level, traveling to space on a Blue Origin flight, the private aerospace company owned by Amazon's Jeff Bezos. At 90 years old Shatner is the oldest person to go to space.

Tooning Out the News joins the growing slate of animated shows from Paramount+ including Star Trek: Lower Decks, Rugrats, Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years, No Activity, the recently launched adult comedy The Harper House, and Star Trek: Prodigy which premieres later this month.
