Tony Khan has never been shy about making promises to AEW fans, and he made a pretty big one ahead of Wednesday Night Dynamite Grand Slam. Set to take place on September 21 from the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York, the show features several huge matches that will have long-term ramifications for All Elite Wrestling. Dynamite picked up a massive ratings win on September 14, putting up a 1.2 million number, and will try to keep that positive momentum going while leaving what happened at All Out in the rearview.

That pay-per-view might be one of the darkest nights in AEW's young history. After his main event match against Jon Moxley, CM Punk went nuclear during his media scrum. He buried the EVPs (Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks) while ranting about how exhausting it is to work with children. To make matters even worse, he picked up another injury during the bout with Moxley, forcing him to relinquish the World Championship and undergo surgery. Punk is expected to be out at least six months, assuming he's welcomed back into AEW's locker room once healthy.

Last week's Dynamite did a massive number without Omega, The Young Bucks, or Punk, though, and Khan is hoping to turn in a similar effort this Wednesday. Speaking to News 12 about Grand Slam, AEW's founder and co-owner had this to say about the show: "It's gonna' be really special. You don't wanna' miss this one. If there's still opportunity for you to come Wednesday night and you're a wrestling fan around New York, you do not wanna miss this." Khan said that Grand Slam would "be like my Waynestock," referring to Wayne's World 2. "Expect a lot, and you shall not be disappointed," Khan enthusiastically promised. Grand Slam Needs To Deliver For AEW

Promoting is a huge part of Tony Khan's job, so he's never going to sit down for an interview and state that a show will be so-so. Still, AEW has been through a lot over the last month, and the company's growing pains have been aired like dirty laundry. Chris Jericho and several other veterans have emplored the younger wrestlers to stop the leaks, but that hasn't necessarily helped. Malakai Black, for instance, recently openly wrote about wondering how stories about his mental well-being were leaked to the press when he hadn't spoken to anyone.

There are several big matches taking place at Dynamite Grand Slam. Claudio Castagnoli will defend the ROH World Championship against Chris Jericho. PAC and Orange Cassidy are set to wrestle for the All-Atlantic Championship, while Swerve In Our Glory and The Acclaimed will run back their classic match from All Out. The interim women's world championship is up for grabs, with Toni Storm defending against Serena Deeb, Athena, and Britt Baker in a fatal four-way. The likely main event will be Jon Moxley vs. Bryan Danielson for the AEW World Championship, with MJF looming in the background with a chip that guarantees him a title shot whenever and wherever he wants.
