Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 is experiencing a lot of issues on Xbox Series X. Players are reporting that Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 keeps crashing on Xbox Series X following its new next-gen port, which has been a bit of a controversy in and of itself. There's currently no official fix for this issue, but players have already theorized why this is happening.

Shortly after announcing the new port of the Tony Hawk remakes, Activision came out and lost some of the goodwill it had earned from fans. The publishing giant announced that some Tony Hawk Xbox owners would have to re-purchase the game if they wanted to upgrade to the Xbox Series X version. This only impacted physical owners but was not an issue for anyone who owned the game on PS4, causing some confusion. All owners of the standard digital edition also have to pay $10 to upgrade it to next-gen. Activision still hasn't revealed why it singled out Xbox owners, especially when Smart Delivery exists on the Microsoft console.

Some users are speculating this is the cause of the recent crashes on the Xbox Series X version of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 as something similar happened with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Players are reporting the new version simply crashes on the main menu, meaning the new Tony Hawk game launched in a broken state. Microsoft issued a statement regarding some of the speculation surrounding the upgrade path following an inquiry from Eurogamer. "Smart Delivery is available to all Xbox developers and publishers," a Microsoft spokesperson said. "Our partners have the freedom to choose whether to implement the tech based on what they determine is best for their individual games. For questions about Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2, please reach out to Activision directly."

Activision is currently investigating the matter, but there's no word as to when this will be resolved. Activision has already been under fire after major game-crashing bugs in Cold War sprung up, so this certainly isn't a good look. The publisher has also upset skateboarding fans by seemingly crushing dreams of more Tony Hawk remakes when it transitioned developer Vicarious Visions to a support studio for teams like Blizzard. Of course, it's not impossible for another studio to take on the beloved franchise, so gamers are continuing to hold out hope for the series continuation.

Given Activision has supported features like Smart Delivery in the past, this entire issue is perplexing. Some had hoped that Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 signaled a new, more consumer-friendly era for Activision as it seemed the gaming giant was listening to fans. Whether or not these noteworthy bugs will result in the publisher changing its mind regarding this strategy going forward remains to be seen, but here's hoping that the game-crashing bugs are rectified sooner rather than later.
