Nintendo fans are only a few short months away from being able to perform countless ollies and kickflips from the comfort of home, as Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 & 2’s Switch release date has finally been announced. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 & 2 was one of the biggest gaming hits of 2020. Originally launching on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the game rereleased on the PS5 and Series X/S in March, but the date for Nintendo consoles was left with a non-committal “2021” release date, until now.

When Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 & 2 was released last year, it was met with waves of praise from fans of the skateboarding series. A remake of the original (and widely considered superior) two games in the series, Tony Hawk Pro Skater provided the chance for gamers to once more live out their endless trick combo dreams, but without the real-world risk of scuffed knees. However, Nintendo console owners could not join in and live out this fantasy. That is, until Tony Hawk called in a favor from Crash Bandicoot, who got in touch with Activision personally to bring the skating title to more gaming platforms.

Today, Activision announced in a press release that Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 & 2 will be coming to the Nintendo Switch on June 25th. Activision assured fans that they are in for an “epic treat” when the first Tony Hawk’s game for the Nintendo Switch releases this summer, stating that “Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 blends all the original levels, pro skaters, old-school tricks, a killer soundtrack with old and new beats and more that gamers remember from the ‘90s and ‘00s with new, beautifully recreated levels.” This excitement is also felt by Nintendo itself, who shared a tweet with the news along with a beautiful sunset skating gif to whet appetites.

While there is no doubt that the graphics will not be up to the same clarity as those available on the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, the release of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 & 2 on the Nintendo Switch will be the first time that the game will be able to be played portably. There has been nothing mentioned yet about how the actual gaming mechanics on the Switch will work, but the potential use of the gyro controls to perform tricks could add another layer to the gameplay. This is something that is not possible on other consoles.

There is now only a short wait until Nintendo gamers will have the chance to find out just how Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 & 2 will play on the Switch. Along with skateboarding, fans of sports-based games will also have the chance to ready their tees and clubs in June, as Mario Golf will also be swinging its way onto the Switch on the very same day.
