Toni Collette and Anna Faris have joined Thomas Haden-Church in the cast of new comedy The Estate from Death at a Funeral writer Dean Craig. Australian actress and multiple award-nominee Collette, who was Oscar-nominated for her role in 2006’s Little Miss Sunshine, has starred in some of the best comedy-dramas of recent years, including Riain Johnson’s murder mystery Knives Out. Faris, who rose to prominence in the Scary Movie spoof films, is another talented comedienne. Craig, a British screenwriter, penned 2007’s hit comedy Death at a Funeral (which was directed by Frank Oz), and his popular script got an American remake in 2010.

Now, Deadline reports that Craig is writing and directing a new picture, The Estate, for Signature Films, with Collette and Faris set to star alongside Haden-Church. The dark comedy premise sees two sisters who visit their dying, wealthy aunt in an attempt to inherit her estate to save their struggling cafe. The cynical plan faces difficulty when they learn their two cousins have arrived with a similar idea. The Estate will likely see Craig use his talent for writing darkly hilarious farce to bring the premise to the screen.

Craig recently helmed Netflix’s Love Wedding Repeat, a rom-com that starred Olivia Munn and Sam Claflin. Collette will soon appear in Guillermo Del Toro’s new thriller Nightmare Alley, while Faris has recently lent her voice to animated comedy series HouseBroken. Meanwhile, their co-star Haden-Church is set to make a return to his Spider-Man 3 role as his version of Sandman is set to re-appear in this year’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. The Estate, written and directed by Craig, goes into production soon.
