The official trailer for this summer's sci-fi epic The Tomorrow War sends Chris Pratt hurtling into a futuristic battle. Originally titled Ghost Draft, The Tomorrow War is an original tale from writer Zach Dean and director Chris McKay (The Lego Batman Movie). It stars Pratt as a high school teacher who gets recruited to fight in a war against aliens taking place 30 years in the future. With humanity on the brink of extinction, soldiers travel back in time to enlist newcomers for their conflict. The Tomorrow War also features Yvonne Strahovski, Sam Richardson, Betty Gilpin, and J.K. Simmons.

Once slated for release in December of last year, The Tomorrow War was bumped to 2021 by the coronavirus pandemic. That wouldn't be the only adjustment to strike its release plans, as April brought the news The Tomorrow War will roll out on streaming instead of in theaters. It is the latest film to do so within the past year; it will join the likes of Coming 2 America and Without Remorse by premiering on Amazon Prime this July.

Following last month's teaser, Amazon has officially unveiled the full trailer for The Tomorrow War. The lengthy clip takes audiences back to the moment the soldiers arrived from the future, thus introducing the conflict that lies ahead. Watch as Pratt's Dan Forester sets off to join the fight for humanity which, as the trailer shows, promises to be quite epic. The trailer is in the space below.

The Tomorrow War trailer follows the initial beats of Dan's journey, from when he's drafted all the way to his jump to the future. As Lieutenant Hart (Jasmine Matthews) ominously explains, they have only 11 months to prevent all of humanity from being eradicated. Those are some big stakes, and the action scenes from The Tomorrow War so far look like they will live up to the massive scale of that threat. At the same time, the alien enemies are largely relegated to faraway shots and quick flashes at the end of the trailer, likely out of an attempt to keep their overall appearance more mysterious in the lead-up to the movie.

Though everything sounds quite dire in The Tomorrow War, the trailer still proves there's time for humor in between battles. Pratt's usual wise-cracking style is once again on full display, with him dropping jokes about the early tests he has to undergo and the length of his backstory. The comedy doesn't quite meld well with the overall action-packed look of The Tomorrow War, but that might feel differently when the full movie is revealed. There's just over a month to go before its release, and then it's up to the audience to decide how successful The Tomorrow War really is.
