The Tomorrow War has received new moving character posters. Once it was clear theaters would remain closed for the foreseeable future due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Paramount decided to hold back its tentpole titles for more traditional theatrical releases and sell others to streamers. The Chris Pratt-starrer, which was originally intended to be a Christmas 2020 release, is one that Paramount sold off to Amazon Studios. Since Paramount+ had not launched yet at the time, sending The Tomorrow War straight to the streaming service was not an option for the studio, like they have done with Mark Walhberg’s sci-fi thriller, Infinite.

A wholly original sci-fi film from the minds of writer Zach Dean (Deadfall, 24 Hours to Live) and Chris McKay (The Lego Batman Movie) in his live-action directorial debut, The Tomorrow War is based on a high concept of warding off an alien invasion by drafting soldiers from the past. Chris Pratt stars as a high school teacher who is recruited by a brilliant scientist (played by The Handmaid's Tale’s Yvonne Strahovski) and his estranged father (J.K. Simmons) to save the planet from destruction. Now, some new promotional material for the film is providing a look at this cast of characters.

The Tomorrow War has released some new moving posters showcasing the soldiers who are recruited to fight in this futuristic war. Pratt and Strahovski are chief among them with Edwin Hodge and Sam Richardson also joining the fray. Jasmine Mathews, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Keith Powers, Mike Mitchell, and Seychelle Gabriel also join the ranks. Each soldier is outfitted with an automatic rifle and some camouflage garb. Since  J.K. Simmons is noticeably missing from these character posters, it appears he will not be suiting up to fight in the film’s titular tomorrow war. These posters also omit any sneak peek at the film’s aliens, which The Tomorrow War’s marketing campaign has kept under wraps up to this point in an attempt to build suspense for their reveal, either closer to the film’s release date or in the actual film itself, which wouldn’t be unprecedented.

Many are anticipating a return to movie theaters this summer with Cruella and A Quiet Place Part II set to test the waters this Memorial Day weekend and then major titles like F9 and Black Widow to follow. However, summer moviegoing is still shrouded in some uncertainty, and streaming titles like The Tomorrow War offer a suitable alternative for those who are still apprehensive about returning to crowded theaters.
