Amazon ups its promotional efforts for the upcoming Prime release The Tomorrow War by advertising it on packages. Over the past few years, the mega-sized tech company has gradually become a major force within the entertainment industry thanks to streaming service Amazon Prime Video and Amazon Studios. Responsible for critical darlings like Manchester By the Sea and The Big Sick, Amazon continued to build up its might in film and television by purchasing MGM earlier this year.

During the pandemic, Amazon has become the home to various movies shifting from theatrical releases to streaming. This has become common practice amid the pandemic, as studios are sometimes unable (or unwilling) to repeatedly delay certain movies. Amazon has released flicks like Coming 2 America and Without Remorse, and its next big project, The Tomorrow War starring Chris Pratt, is the latest theatrical import for the service. The sci-fi epic will debut on Amazon next week, meaning its promotional efforts are really kicking into high gear. The Tomorrow War was confirmed to be skipping theaters for Amazon in April.

Amazon has made use of its packaging to advertise certain things before, and now that extends to their Prime releases. As noted by The Playlist on social media, a recent package features an ad for The Tomorrow War along the side. Pratt is featured on the box, along with the film's release date of July 2.

The Tomorrow War follows a military vet-turned-teacher (Pratt) who is enlisted to fight in a futuristic war. Soldiers from 30 years in the future return to the present to recruit more fighters in their increasingly dire battle against alien invaders; should they lose, humanity will cease to exist. Aside from Pratt, The Tomorrow War stars Yvonne Strahovski and J.K. Simmons and is directed by Chris McKay. It was originally slated to debut in theaters last Christmas, but that changed when the pandemic shut down theaters across the globe.

It remains to be seen what kind of audience The Tomorrow War will draw on streaming, but it's clear Amazon has some big hopes for it. Depending on how the story shakes out, there could be opportunities for sequels, and Amazon would likely be interested in developing its own major sci-fi franchise. With The Tomorrow War just over a week away from its debut, it will be quite interesting to see how it stacks up with recent blockbuster streaming releases like the aforementioned Coming 2 America. With Pratt's star power, the original premise, and Amazon's marketing power, The Tomorrow War just might be a hit.
