HBO has released a trailer for Tom and Jerry in New York, bringing back classic characters from the cartoon. The antagonistic cat Tom and mouse Jerry originated in the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer 1940s series of short films, which centered around their literal cat and mouse games and rivalry, along with several recurring characters. Warner Bros. later revived the cartoon in 2006 and was most recently adapted in this year's live-action and animated hybrid film Tom and Jerrywhich followed the frenemies' adventures in New York City. Last week, Warner Bros. Animation announced its latest Tom and Jerry project, Tom and Jerry in New York, an HBO Max Original animated series.

HBO Max has released a trailer for its new animated series Tom and Jerry in New York. The new series not only sees the return of the titular cat and mouse but of some other classic characters, including Spike the Bulldog and Butch Cat. The animated comedy is set to debut on HBO Max on July 1.

The animated series is directed by Darrell Van Citters, who also serves as producer with Ashley Postlewaite for Renegade. Sam Register, President of Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network Studios executive produced the show. The show will continue the cat and mouse's adventures at the 5-star Royal Gate Hotel in New York City. According to the show's synopsis, the episodes will see Tom and Jerry invade a department store after-hours, Jerry and an elephant escape Tom in a museum, and Tom and Jerry's chaotic kiting adventure.

Spike the Bulldog and Butch the alley cat were both created for the MGM cartoon shorts, so loyal Tom and Jerry fans will be pleased to see the two returning along with other iconic talking animal characters. The show is certainly coming quite soon after the movie's premiere, so Warner Bros. Animation clearly wants to continue capitalizing on the resurgence of these characters. It will be interesting to see how the franchise continues to grow when Tom and Jerry in New York hits HBO Max in July.
