Peter Dinklage is reportedly Warner Bros.' top choice for the male lead role in their upcoming Tom and Jerry movie. The characters Tom and Jerry first appeared in 1940, with William Hanna and Joseph Barbera producing 114 shorts for MGM. The famous cat and mouse duo has starred in several TV shows and direct-to-video movies over the years, but Warner Bros. seems now to be making progress on their first ever live-action Tom and Jerry film.

Rumors of a live-action Tom and Jerry film have been around for years, but it wasn't until last year that the project actually seemed to be in the works. Last October, it was revealed that Ride Along and Fantastic Four director Tim Story would be directing Tom and Jerry. A few months later, concept art featuring Jennifer Lawrence made its way online, however the original Tweet has since been deleted. Earlier this month fans got some casting information when it was revealed that Warner Bros. was considering either Zoey Deutch or Olivia Cooke for the lead role named Kayla, but now it looks like they could be hiring Dinklage as well.

According to The Hashtag Show, Dinklage is currently Warner Bros.' first choice for the male lead in Tom and Jerry. Dinklage would be the antagonist of the film named Terrance, who is also Kayla's boss. It is unknown whether Warner Bros. has met with Dinklage or not at this point, but it will likely make headlines if he does sign on for the project.

Game of Thrones Season 8 Trailer Tyrion

Dinklage is of course most known for his role of Tyrion Lannister on HBO's critically acclaimed Game of Thrones. Dinklage has had other notable roles in his career such as Dr. Bolivar Trask in X-Men: Days of Future Past and Eitri in Avengers: Infinity War, but Tyrion is the role that turned the actor into a household name. With the final season of Game of Thrones being released this April, and Dinklage obviously having finished filming the season, the actor likely has more time for other projects like Tom and Jerry.

While hiring either Deutch or Cooke for the female lead in Tom and Jerry could be a good choice, getting Dinklage would be a huge win for Warner Bros. Not only has Dinklage proven his acting skills on Game of Thrones, but the series has made him an incredibly popular actor. In short, Tom and Jerry would not only benefit from Dinklage's acting chops, but could benefit from his massive star power as well.
