Chloë Grace Moretz has reportedly been cast in the upcoming Tom and Jerry movie. Having recently starred in a number of dark thrillers, like Greta and the remake of Suspiria, Moretz may be taking a more family-friendly turn in the near future.

Based on a series of animated short films from the 1940s, Tom and Jerry went on to become an immensely popular animated TV series with spinoffs and movies that extended well into the 2000s. And now, a live-action/animated hybrid film is in the works, with Tim Story (director of the upcoming Shaft) at the helm. As of now, the movie will reportedly star Game of Thrones' Peter Dinklage, and though there are still a couple of years until its release, it's possible that Dinklage may have found his co-star - and on-screen enemy.

According to Collider, Chloë Grace Moretz is in talks to join the upcoming Tom and Jerry movie. The role she's being considered for is a character named Kayla, an employee at a ritzy hotel trying desperately to impress her boss. When she discovers a mouse (Jerry) in the hotel whose presence runs the risk of a ruining a wedding being held at the hotel, she enlists the help of an alley cat (Tom) to get rid of him. Naturally, things don't go according to plan.

Though Moretz looks to be the top contender for Tom and Jerry, a number of other actresses were originally being considered for the role. The list of contenders included Zoey Deutch (Set It Up), Olivia Cooke (Ready Player One), and Star Wars' Kelly Marie Tran. As for Dinklage, he's being considered for the role of Kayla's boss, Terrance, who ends up taking on the role of the film's antagonist, and who Kayla, Tom, and Jerry will likely band together against.

Over the years, hybrid live-action/animated films have come a long way in terms of what digital animation is able to pull off, but the films themselves have been strictly aimed at younger audiences. Even when certain animated films manage to entertain all ages, the live-action films for franchises like The Smurfs, Alvin and the Chipmunks, and Scooby Doo have had trouble pulling this off. And, though that's not to say that Tom and Jerry automatically falls into that category of films, it'll be interesting to see in which direction this big screen adaptation will ultimately lean, and how entertaining it'll be for the masses.
