Sony halts production indefinitely on the Tom Holland-led Uncharted film, which was in pre-production and scheduled to start shooting next month. Uncharted is an adaptation of the popular video game series of the same name. The story follows Nathan Drake, a treasure hunter who travels the world to find historical artifacts. Much like Indiana Jones or Lara Croft, Drake tends to face adversaries and various trouble on his adventures.
According to Variety, the film was scheduled to start shooting next month in Berlin. Due to the coronavirus, Sony has delayed the film's production indefinitely, in order to ensure the safety of everyone involved. Uncharted currently has a March 5, 2021 release date, and it is unclear if this will affect that in any way.
The film has faced many delays already, due to constant changes in the script and directors repeatedly dropping out of the project. The current version of the script is written by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, and Ruben Fleischer, known for directing Venom, is still attached to direct.
Alongside Holland, the film stars Mark Wahlberg, Tati Gabrielle, Sophia Ali, and Antonio Banderas. The plot is said to be inspired by the fourth game, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End. Uncharted is just another film in a long list of productions that have been postponed due to the spread of COVID-19, including The Matrix 4, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and The Batman.
