Later this year, Marvel Studios is set to debut Spider-Man: Homecoming, their latest live-action feature film featuring everyone's favorite web-slinger in the title role. British actor, dancer and gymnast Tom Holland will star as a younger, teenage Peter Parker, after first appearing in 2016's Captain America: Civil War. Unlike Tobey Maguire from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy or Andrew Garfield from Marc Webb's more recent Spider-Man films, Holland's version of the iconic comic book character will be the first Spider-Man to actually be a part of the extensive Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Before even his first movie, Holland's Peter Parker has already fought against or alongside Captain America, Iron Man, Black Widow, Falcon, War Machine and Hawkeye, just to name a few of the superheroes found in Civil War. He already counts Tony Stark as his ally and mentor, and ahead of his appearance in the MCU, Parker has also refined his spider-like abilities and Spider-Man suit. So with all the introductions out of the way, Homecoming is expected to get right down to business with a brand new story about the wall-crawler.

While many fans will always have a soft spot for Maguire or Garfield as Spider-Man, since they were probably the first versions of the character some ever saw on the big screen, there's an excitement in the air for this new Peter Parker. He's younger like his comic book counterpart, already a seasoned pro and most importantly feels like he actually lives in the superhero world we've come to know and love. However, there's possibly no one more excited for everyone to see what Holland can do than his cast members. Speaking at Wizard World Cleveland this weekend, Civil War costar Anthony Mackie (Falcon) made his feelings quite clear:

“I think he’s going to be a kick-ass Spider-Man. I think he’s going to be the best Spider-Man yet.”

Tom Holland in Spider-Man Homecoming

It's true that in just a few scenes in Civil War, Holland was able to nail down the heart and tone of Spider-Man. He's just an awkward, ordinary guy from Queens who is thrown into the most unlikeliest of circumstances but makes the best of it. His quips and wide-eyed fascination really make the character come to life. He's arguably just more convincing than either Maguire or Garfield were in the Peter Parker role.

Holland already has Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Stan Lee's approval, so Mackie is just the latest voice to add in their thoughts. Everyone is saying the same, that Holland is a talented, hard-working actor, a huge fan of Spider-Man and the living embodiment of the character, both with and without the mask. He's got the age, the look and the gymnastic ability too, which makes all the rest that much more authentic and impressive. Of course, everyone has their own opinion, and we still have a few months left to see whether Holland's Spider-Man can carry his own movie.
