With the upcoming release of Spider-Man: Far From Home, superhero superstar Tom Holland could not be more hot right now. Though for some he may have burst onto the scene in Captain America: Civil War and stolen the show, the British actor has actually been acting for several years now alongside some of Hollywood’s biggest stars.
For being only in his early 20s, he’s got a surprising number of high profile movies on his CV, with nine films slated to come out between 2019 and 2020 alone! Here’s a look at all the movies, past and present, that Tom Holland’s been in to get you caught up on his blossoming career.
20 UNCHARTED (2020)
Based on the popular action-adventure video game title of the same name, Uncharted will follow the adventures of explorer/treasure hunter Nathan Drake as he travels the world unraveling historical puzzles.
Part Indiana Jones and part Tomb Raider, the games have been well-received by fans of the genre, and a film has been in development for a number of years, with Channing Tatum and Nathan Fillion previously attached. As of right now, there isn’t any particular plot for the film, though Tom Holland is attached to play Nathan Drake, and Bryan Cranston has an unknown role.
19 THE DEVIL ALL THE TIME (2020)
Tom Holland has been tapped to be in the independent film The Devil All the Time, based on the best-selling book by Donald Ray Pollock, for release next year. It will reunite him with his Avengers and Captain America co-star Chris Evans.
The film takes place in rural Ohio during World War II, and focuses on a soldier who returns home only to find more horrors awaiting him when his wife is stricken with cancer. Tom Holland plays his son, Arvin Russell, who grows up to be a violent man despite being raised with the best ideals.
18 CHAOS WALKING (2020)
In the new science fiction thriller Chaos Walking, set to premier next year, Tom Holland joins an all-star cast including Mads Mikkelsen and Daisy Ridley. The film focuses on humanity’s rebirth on the planet New-World.
New-World seems fairly idyllic until it’s struck by a virus called “The Noise’, in which every living creature on the planet can stream each other’s thoughts, as well as memories. The cacophony drives many mad, but Todd (Holland) discovers a girl who may hold the key to silencing it.
17 THE VOYAGE OF DOCTOR DOLITTLE (2020)
Doctor Doolittle has had several notable incarnations, first by Rex Harrison in the ‘60s, and Eddie Murphy in the ‘90s. Based on a children’s book from the ‘20s, the latest film version will focus on a doctor who prefers animal patients to humans, and discovers he can communicate with them in their own language after a freak accident.
16 ONWARD (2019)
Set to be the latest production from Disney and Pixar Studios, Onward will be an adventure comedy that focuses on two elven brothers living in a fantasy version of suburbia. Intent to see if magic still exists in the world, they leave their small town behind on an epic quest. No further information of the plot is known.
Tom Holland will play the younger of the elven brothers, with Chris Pratt playing the eldest. They last appeared together in Avengers: Infinity War, where they reprised their roles of Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Peter Quill/Star-Lord, respectively.
15 SPIES IN DISGUISE (2019)
An animated espionage adventure from the United Kingdom, Spies in Disguise is the story of the world’s most famous spy being turned into a pigeon by his teenage tech officer. Why is he now a flying rodent in the world’s tiniest tuxedo? Because pigeons are everywhere, but always ignored, making it the perfect form for a spy to take.
Will Smith will play super secret agent Lance Sterling, and Tom Holland will play Walter Beckett, the tech genius that develops the ability to turn him into a pigeon.
14 SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME (2019)
Tom Holland once again reprises his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the much anticipated sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming. This time around, Peter Parker just wants to leave superhero business to superheroes and go on a European vacation with his pals. A little sightseeing and a little jaunt on a gondola with MJ are the only things on his mind.
His jet-setting plans are interrupted when peril strikes London, and he’s once again forced to save the world at the behest of Nick Fury. He faces supervillain Mysterio in his first live-action appearance, portrayed by Jake Gyllenhaal.
13 AVENGERS: ENDGAME (2019)
The exciting second installment of the two-part storyline that began in Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame reunites the surviving Avengers of Thanos’s decimation. With half the world’s population gone and the universe in shambles, the remaining superheroes must discover a way to undo the catastrophic event.
Tom Holland will appear as Peter Parker/Spider-Man once again, though it’s unclear if this will be in flashbacks or as a result of the remaining Avengers’ efforts in restoring the timeline prior to Thanos’s impact, given Peter was an unfortunate victim.
12 AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR (2018)
The epic lead-up to the Avengers facing off against the Mad Titan Thanos, Avengers: Infinity War saw the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and many other allies come together to prevent him from gathering the Infinity Stones.
Unable to prevent Thanos from achieving his goal, the heroes watched helplessly as he was able to place the Stones into the Infinity Gauntlet and use it to wipe out half the world’s population, including Peter in one of the film’s most emotional scenes.
11 THE CURRENT WAR (2017)
Two titans of the industrial age, Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse engage in a battle of wills in The Current War to determine whose electrical system will dominate the competition. Edison (Benedict Cumberbatch) has the backing of J.P. Morgan, while Westinghouse (Michael Shannon) has the help of Nikola Tesla.
Each sees flaws in the others grand design as they race to light the new century. Edison favors direct current, while Westinghouse favors alternating. Tom Holland plays Samuel Insull, noted American investor and business magnate who is tempted to back Edison’s design.
10 SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING (2017)
The typical origin story of Spider-Man is eschewed in favor of documenting the life of a teenage superhero that’s already been keeping criminals off the streets of New York City. Tom Holland is the breakout star of Spider-Man: Homecoming, giving vibrancy and energy to the role of Peter Parker and charisma to his alter ego Spider-Man.
Spider-Man had already been seen briefly in Captain America: Civil War, where Holland impressed audiences with his spunk alongside established Marvel actors like Iron Man’s Robert Downey Jr. and Captain America’s Chris Evans.
9 PILGRIMAGE (2017)
Pilgrimage tells the story of a band of monks in 13th century Ireland that must escort a holy relic to Rome, across an island torn apart by tribal warfare and Norman invaders. Outnumbered at every turn, the journey makes them question their faith as they battle hordes of the faithful and non-believers alike.
Tom Holland joins an all-star cast including Richard Armitage and Jon Bernthal as Brother Diarmuld, a novice monk who is entrusted with chronicling the bloody quest.
8 THE LOST CITY OF Z (2016)
Unfulfilled with a life of complacency, war hero and explorer Percy Fawcett sets out to the Amazon in the '20s to find the infamous "Zed" kingdom in The Lost City of Z, a sort of El Dorado paradise among men with an advanced civilization. Ridiculed by the scientific community of the time, he nevertheless continues to go back, eventually taking his eldest son on his last expedition.
Charlie Hunnam plays Percy Fawcett, and Tom Holland plays his eldest son. The two go on an exhibition to the lost city in 1925, and are never seen again.
7 EDGE OF WINTER (2016)
What begins as a seemingly innocent family outing turns nightmarish when a father and his two sons are trapped by nightfall and harsh weather conditions in the remote wilderness. While it may seem like their best bet for survival is remaining together in a small log cabin, the boys quickly learn that their protector may be their biggest threat.
Tom Holland plays the eldest son in Edge of Winter, Bradley Baker, to Joel Kinnaman’s Elliot Baker, a father whose unpredictable temper jeopardizes him and his brother Caleb’s survival.
6 CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR (2016)
The third installment in the Captain America series of films, Captain America: Civil War shows what happens to the Avengers when the government calls for sanctions on their powers. Tony Stark/Iron Man believes in regulations, whereas Steve Rogers/Captain America sees them as an infringement on civil liberty.
Caught in the middle of it all is newcomer Peter Parker/Spider-Man, hopeful Avenger and admirer of Tony Stark. Tom Holland left his mark on the film, even in a small supporting role, and got his feature film debut soon after in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
5 IN THE HEART Of THE SEA (2015)
Whereas the seaman Ishmael famously recounted the story of the Great White Whale, Moby Dick, Owen Chase (Chris Hemsworth) is the protagonist that takes on a similar leviathan in In the Heart of the Sea, about the whaling ship Essex being assaulted off the coast of New England by a giant whale.
Tom Holland stars with his Avengers: Infinity War co-star Chris Hemsworth as Thomas Nickerson, an orphaned boy who serves as a ship’s mate on the Essex and tries to stay alive amidst raging storms, starvation, and whale attacks.
4 HOW I LIVE NOW (2013)
In the not too distant future, war has engulfed America. In How I Live Now, Daisy, a rebellious teenager (Saoirse Ronan) has been sent by her father to live with her aunt in the English countryside. There, she meets her ragtag group of cousins, and begins to embrace their bohemian lifestyle, only to have it all torn apart when war comes to the UK.
Tom Holland plays Isaac, her shy but friendly cousin who retrieves her from the airport and helps her engage with the people around her on a less hostile and more personal level.
3 LOCKE (2013)
A gripping drama that takes place entirely in the interior of a moving car, Locke is a study of self-destruction and redemption. Ivan Locke (Tom Hardy) is the manager of a construction site who answers a series of phone calls on his way through the English countryside.
The calls to his wife, sons, and co-workers reveal a dark secret and how he will cope with it. Tom Holland isn’t seen on-screen, but he plays one of Locke’s sons Eddie, and his is one of the calls that Locke makes while on his journey.
2 THE IMPOSSIBLE (2012)
When a family travels to Thailand for Christmas, they don’t expect a tsunami to ruin their holiday festivities. But that’s exactly what happens when Maria (Naomi Watts) and her eldest son Lucas are swept away, leaving Henry (Ewan McGregor) and their own two sons to try to find them.
As the eldest son Lucas, Tom Holland holds his own beside veteran actors like Watts and McGregor, able to evoke a lot of credible emotion at a young age as he fights to survive amidst the chaos.
1 ARRIETTY (2010)
Based on the British children’s fantasy book The Borrowers, Arrietty is the story of the Clocks, a family of four-inch tall people that live under the floor of their human resident’s house. They borrow small items they may need to help them in their everyday life, and everything works seamlessly until their teenage daughter Arrietty is discovered.
With the voice acting talents of Saoirse Ronan, Mark Strong, and Tom Holland, the charming animated film was a success for noted Japanese animation house Studio Ghibli.
