On Avengers: Endgame release day, Robert Downey Jr. pokes fun at Spider-Man actor Tom Holland's propensity for accidentally spoiling Marvel movies. Avengers: Endgame marks the end of an era in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Wrapping up the story so far, what Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige calls the Infinity Saga, Endgame picks up after the cliffhanger ending of Avengers: Infinity War. The film sees the original six Avengers unite with their remaining allies and take on the Mad Titan Thanos once again after he used the Infinity Stones to wipe out half of all life in the universe.

One such character who was dusted by Thanos' snap was Peter Parker aka. Spider-Man. Holland joined the MCU in 2016's Captain America: Civil War as a part of Tony Stark aka. Iron Man's (Downey Jr.) team. Then he appeared in the solo movie Spider-Man: Homecoming, where he was mentored by Stark, and teamed up once again with Iron Man - along with Doctor Strange and the Guardians of the Galaxy - in Avengers: Infinity War. However, during the press tour for Infinity War, Holland accidentally spoiled the movie on multiple occasions. A fan even edited a supercut of Doctor Strange actor Benedict Cumberbatch stopping Holland from spoiling the movie on multiple occasions.

Now, though Holland didn't appear on the Avengers: Endgame press tour - since his character is, y'know, dust - Downey has taken the opportunity on the film's official release day to poke fun at the younger actor for his propensity for spoiling Marvel movies once again. (Seriously, it's an ongoing theme, with directors Anthony and Joe Russo saying Holland wasn't allowed to read the Avengers: Endgame script - after he also wasn't allowed to read the Infinity War script!) Check out Downey's tweet below.

The image in Downey's tweet comes from the animated Spider-Man TV series that aired 1967-1970. With the rise of the internet, stills from the series have become popular memes. In fact, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse referenced a popular Spider-Man meme in which two Spideys are depicted pointing at each other. Downey's tweet is a similarly meta meme, insinuating Holland must restrain himself from spoiling Avengers: Endgame.

Of course, while Holland really has spoiled Marvel movies in the past, and as a result the studio likely took extra precaution to make sure he couldn't reveal too much about his upcoming films, the jokes are all in good fun. Marvel Studios gets in on the joke themselves, having Holland "leak" the Avengers: Infinity War poster and "accidentally" reveal the Spider-Man: Far From Home title on Instagram. Holland has even poked fun at himself, thinking he'd accidentally leaked Avengers: Endgame when he ran across a satirical article about him leaking Avengers: Endgame.

Ultimately, it's one of many running jokes about the MCU, similar to Mark Ruffalo leaking Marvel movie secrets or the competition for Best Chris. Downey is the latest to get in on the fun as he jokes about Holland's spoiler-leaking tendencies. But, at least this time, Holland actually didn't spoil Avengers: Endgame (probably).
