Star of the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home, Tom Holland, makes a playful dig at Anthony Mackie for not having a standalone outing as Sam Wilson/Falcon in the MCU. Spider-Man: No Way Home serves as a sequel to 2019's Spider-Man: Far From Home and will be the latest movie entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe following Eternals. The story of the film is set immediately after the events of Spider-Man: Far From Home, where Peter Parker's identity as Spider-Man was exposed by Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal). Peter asks Doctor Strange to help make his identity as Spider-Man a secret again with the use of sorcery, which leads to the opening of the multiverse and allows villains from previous Spider-Man movie realities to enter Parker's world.

Holland will be reprising his role as the charismatic web-slinging superhero in what will be his third solo outing in the MCU. He will be joined by returning cast Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau, and JB Smoove. New additions to the Spider-Man: Homecoming cast include Doctor Strange stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Benedict Wong. Multiple villains from Sony's Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man films are also set to return along with the actors who originally portrayed them, including Willem Dafoe as Green Goblin, Alfred Molina as Doc Ock, Jamie Foxx as Electro, Thomas Haden Church as Sandman, and Rhys Ifans as Lizard.

Holland was doing the rounds promoting Spider-Man: No Way Home in a recent interview with Comicbook.com. The English actor was asked about whether Mackie boasted to him following the announcement of Captain America 4, which will center on Wilson after he inherits the Captain America title. Holland replied in a playfully blunt manner, stating that Mackie's Falcon "hasn't got his own movie yet." The actor continued his playful banter by stating that while Mackie may have had his own series, The Falcon and the Winter Solider, he was still sharing hero duties with Sebastian Stan's Buckey Barnes. Read Holland's comments below:

"He hasn't got his own movie yet. He got a TV show, but he didn't get his own movie. Also, it's called 'The Falcon and The Winter Soldier,' it's not called 'The Falcon.' I saw that online, everyone was like 'Anthony Mackie says Tom Holland's eating his words.' I'm not eating my words. I said, 'there is no Falcon movie.' There isn't one."

Falcon Winter Soldier Captain America Spider-Man SR

It's been seven years since Mackie made his MCU debut as the Falcon in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. As far as the MCU films go, he made subsequent appearances in Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. However, the recent Disney+ series The Falcon and The Winter Soldier presented a chance to put Sam Wilson in the spotlight and flesh out his character further as he transitioned into becoming a worthy successor to Steve Rogers and take on the mantle of the new Captain America. While Marvel Studios have just announced the sole Captain America project so far, the success of the film could potentially spawn a new trilogy for Mackie's iteration of the character and put the ball in his court with regards to the cheerful above-mentioned exchange between him and Holland.

The announcement of a Captain America 4 film as a continuation of the series generated plenty of excitement among the Marvel fanbase. The plot and release date of the film remains unknown, but Mackie's next appearance in the popular superhero franchise most likely won't be until Phase 5. There have also been talks of a new MCU Spider-Man trilogy led by Holland's hero, with no official confirmation given as of yet. If Holland is indeed given an extended run as Spider-Man in the MCU, audiences will be sure to expect plenty of more exciting team-ups between the wall-crawler and the new Avenger beyond Spider-Man: No Way Home.
