Owen Wilson, a newcomer to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, spoke recently about how Tom Hiddleston sat him down for a series of "Loki lectures" prior to filming Disney+'s new show, Loki. Hiddleston has been portraying Loki in the MCU since 2011's Thor, and he has appeared in some of the franchise's biggest films, including the first Avengers movie, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. Now, Loki is finally getting his first solo outing with his own series that ties into the larger film universe. With his time as the character, Hiddleston has become a bit of an expert on Loki, and his respect for the material has him poised as a knowledgeable teacher for rookies like Wilson.

The series will follow Loki after the events of Avengers: Endgame, where Loki was last seen absconding with the Tesseract. Using the power of the Tesseract, Loki begins to travel through time, causing mischief with historical events. This draws the attention of the TVA (Time Variance Authority), a group that monitors the timeline. Wilson's character, Mobius, works for the TVA, and it's his task to put a stop to Loki's time-hopping crimes. Alongside Hiddleston and Wilson, the show also stars Richard E. Grant, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Sophia Di Martino. The series was created by Michael Waldron, and all episodes are directed by Kate Herron.

In an interview with Screen Rant, Wilson talked about the preparation that went into his character before filming started. According to Wilson, Hiddleston sat down with him to lay out the important details about Loki's background and mythology. Wilson said, "It was really right before we started filming when I met with Tom Hiddleston, and he walked me through a lot of the mythology and explaining Loki's full story." Wilson went on to discuss how they jokingly called their long conversations "the Loki lectures," and he described them as "crucial." Check out what Wilson said in the exclusive interview below:

Even the stuff that Tom [told me] - we sort of joke about it being called the Loki lectures. Those were a crucial couple days that we spent, because the stuff that he said about Loki would actually work its way into some of those scenes that we had together. Because I am supposed to be an expert on Loki.

Loki next to Mobius

As Wilson stated, his character, Mobius M. Mobius, is meant to be an expert on Loki in the context of the series. In the comics, Mobius was a driven figure who worked his way up through the TVA, becoming a member of senior management, where he had various encounters with heroes like the Fantastic Four and She-Hulk. For the show, he'll be focusing on Loki, and with the ambitious nature of the character, being an expert would be necessary to rein in the God of Mischief. From the sound of it, Hiddleston's "lectures" were an invaluable help to get Wilson into the mindset of Mobius.

The future of Mobius beyond the Loki series is unknown at this point, but given that characters in the MCU tend to bounce around from project to project, it's likely that Wilson may be a part of the universe for years to come. Even smaller characters can pop up outside of their originating properties in the MCU, like Kat Dennings' Darcy Lewis, who started out as part of the Thor franchise before recently appearing in WandaVision. It's part of the unique nature of what Marvel has crafted, but it also means Wilson's character can likely show up any time the studio thinks he'll fit a project, which may be soon, with films like Fantastic Four on the horizon. When Loki premieres on June 9th, audiences will get their first taste of Mobius, which could be accompanied by clues hinting at his future in the franchise.
