On the day of Loki's big premiere, Tom Hiddleston got a little nostalgic and shared details of the very first time he met Chris Hemsworth. The two actors were launched into the MCU with 2011's Thor. Hemsworth played the titular superhero, Odin's heir and wielder of the mighty Mjölnir. Hiddleston played his adoptive brother Loki, the god of mischief who plotted a scheme to take the throne after learning his true identity. While Thor and Loki were portrayed as opposing characters in the film, each of the brothers would go on a developmental arc and later team up in several adventures.

Ten years since Hiddleston and Hemsworth starred in their first Marvel movie, their characters are still a huge part of the MCU's post-Endgame era. Hemsworth is set to reprise his role for Thor: Love and Thunder, which is scheduled for a 2022 release. Loki, Hiddleston's first solo outing, debuted on Disney+ this Wednesday. The series will run for six episodes and is expected to be a crucial point for phase 4 of the MCU.

Hours before Loki premiered, Hiddleston appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live to talk about his solo series. The 40-year-old actor couldn't help but reminisce about the time he was cast as the supervillain and when he first met Hemsworth. The talk show host pulled out a photo shared by Hemsworth on Instagram. It was of the co-stars' first encounter, showing the pair dressed in old-English costumes. According to the Loki star, it was taken in 2009 at director Kenneth Branagh's house right after they were cast as Thor and Loki. Read what Hiddleston said about the funny memory and see Hemsworth's throwback photo below:

It was in 2009, we just got cast, and it was the first time I met Chris. We were at Kenneth Branagh's house in England. And all I see when I look at that photo is inaccessible youth. It was interesting 'coz we just met. Chris was Thor and I was Loki and [director] Kenneth Branagh had an idea. I think he went into an old wardrobe. He pulled out these colors because Thor's cape was red and Loki's cape was green. I think those costumes were from his movies of Henry V and Hamlet.

Thor propelled Hiddleston's and Hemsworth's careers and made them instant household names. Interestingly, Hiddleston revealed that he also auditioned for the role of Thor. He added that when he first saw Hemsworth, he had a mini Drax the Destroyer moment. "My abiding memory of that day was Chris Hemsworth walking through the door, and my first thought was, 'Oh they've cast the right actor,'" Hiddleston said.

The movie's success can be attributed to the actors' relatable portrayal as rival siblings who also have a deep fondness for each other. Currently, Thor and Loki seem to have separate storylines in phase 4 of the MCU. Since Loki follows the god of mischief's alternate version as he's forced to fix the time-bending mess he's created since branching off to a parallel reality, and Thor was last seen leaving Earth and New Asgard to join the Guardians of the Galaxy after the events of Avengers: Endgame, it is unclear if the two brothers will ever reunite. Of course, nothing is impossible in the world of superheroes.
