It's official - Tom Cruise is going into outer space in October of next year. The massive star has long been known for his role in action-packed films, including his role as Ethan Hunt within the Mission Impossible franchise. It's no surprise that the actor is something of an adrenaline junkie, who seeks to push his limits to the maximum and frequently does his own stunts.

Earlier this year, it was revealed that Cruise was working alongside Elon Musk and NASA to film a new movie in outer space. While the upcoming project doesn't even have a title yet, Cruise has been in talks with Musk's SpaceX program, as well as NASA, to work towards this new goal of the first movie shot in space. Although this announcement was met with enthusiasm for its groundbreaking nature, there's been little word on the project's development until now.

Space Shuttle Almanac's official Twitter, which covers all space-related stories, has confirmed that Cruise's project has been greenlighted by all involved parties. The tweet highlights that Commander Michael Lopez-Alegria, who holds two NASA spacewalk records, will pilot the Axiom Space Station on a tourist mission in October 2021. When Axiom sets off for outer space, both Cruise and director Doug Liman will be on board. You can catch Space Shuttle Almanac's exciting tweet below:

Space Shuttle Almanac's tweet is accompanied with an image showing the International Space Station's manifest for the next three years. More specifically, October 2021 is marked with "Space X Crew Dragon Axiom Tourist Flight," with Lopez-Algeria, Cruise, and Liman confirmed to all be on board. In addition, the manifest shows that one seat on the tourist flight remains to be filled; while it's unclear who will be taking that seat, the spot may be reserved for another producer or cameraman, in order to ensure that filming goes smoothly.

Although there are still a thousand more questions to be answered about Cruise's project - which continues to remain nameless - it seems the pieces are slowly coming together. Liman's involvement shows that the movie has attracted top-talent and that, despite the massive endeavor of filming in space, Cruise's dream may soon come to fruition. That being said, it'll be difficult to see how Cruise will top this particular movie once it's completed. However, it's almost certain that Tom Cruise will find a way to, as impossible as it sounds - after all, exploring the Final Frontier seems to be but a stepping stone for this action star.
