HBO Max confirms that Tokyo Vice season 2 will be happening. Tokyo Vice follows American Jake Adelstein (played by Ansel Elgort) who relocates to Japan in the 1990s in order to work for a Japanese newspaper. Adelstein begins investigating the rivalry between the Tozawa and Chihara-Kai Yakuza gangs, meeting detective Hiroto Katagiri (played by Ken Watanabe), love interest Samantha (played by Rachel Keller), and more along the way.

Now HBO Max announces that the series will return for season 2. Tokyo Vice season 1 was shot on location in Tokyo, and season 2 will be as well. Whether all of the cast from season 1 will be returning is not revealed yet, but season 2 will continue expanding the world already built in season 1. A full quote from Creator J.T. Rogers can be read below:

Writing and then making the first season of Tokyo Vice with this remarkable group of artists was a matchless experience. So I’m over the moon that we get to keep going. I can’t wait to get back to work in Tokyo with our brilliant cast and crew. Stay tuned: there are twists and turns in the tale to come!

Season 1, episode 8, left several questions to be answered in season 2, including how Samantha will manage to pay the Chihara-Kai after she asks them for a loan for her club, and how Katagiri and Adelstein will work together to avenge the death of one of Samantha's friends, Polina. Besides this, one of the most pressing questions is whether Sato, the sometimes ruthless but nonetheless empathetic Chihara-Kai member, is alive after being stabbed several times. Viewers will have to see for themselves how Adelstein and his circle of friends and confidants continue navigating the underbelly of Tokyo when Tokyo Vice season 2 premieres.
